cna is hard work

Published

I did two weekends of clinicals so far, it's really hard because during the diaper change for one lady she who could

speak only a little bit, she was crying and mumbling "I am not here, I am not here". i feel alot of empathy for people and I can understand how extremely hard it must be to have someone help you with you ADL's. I don't like

or understand why some CNA's don't even bother to cover the bottom part of a resident while cleaning the top

part, and vice versa. I understand that we don't have alot of time with 7 or 10 to get ready, but it's doesn't take

extra time to cover someone up in one area while you are cleaning another area. We are running around and probably feel hot, if they are bed bound, old they probably have poor cirulation and will be colder. DUH.

We're not supposed to touch toenails with anything but soap and water. Period.

I am in Texas - hear we clean the nails using a orange stick and push back cuticles. No clipping is allowed by CNAs, but we do file nails. Nurses do the clipping. Nail care is usualy scheduled in most homes on Sundays when there are no showers.

Are you talking about fingers or toes? Because we clip the fingernails but not even the nurses clip or file the toes. Only the podiatrist does that. We have a diabetic woman who lost a leg because the podiatrist himself did it wrong.

We do both however I am sure there are instinces when it is podiatrist only-I have scene some real messed up nails/many with nail funguses. If it doesn't look right to me or I feel uncomfortable I always tell the nurse. Diabetics we still clean their nails and file them - not close but straight across as needed. I always feel a bit edgy with diabetics and nails.
