CNA>RN. Is that right for me?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi, I stumbled across this site and wanted to ask a few questions, but you need my background first. I'm a married 27 year old male, who currently works 40-45 hours as a restaurant manager. I'm paid 11.50/hr and am about to receive my 3rd pay cut I'm a row do to a struggling economy. I just started college with hopes to become an RN. If I stay at my current job the company has a potential to tank completely.

My current plan is withdraw from school until spring, go to CNA school starting sept 17th, find a CNA job by Jan 2012 and start back to school then. This would get me into the field to build experience and provide stable yet meager income for my family.

My question then would be living in NW GA do you believe that I am making the right choice? If I were to do this I would start my RN clinicals spring of 2013.

Opinions/feedback appreciated.

Hey!

I'm a male. I am doing the CNA > RN thing too. I just got a letter that I passed my CNA state exam! It wasn't that bad.. I am going to start applying just to work on the weekends 'cause I want to stay at my current job (UPS) They pay for my courses. If everything goes well then I am going to transfer to Umass in the Fall 2012 for the BSN in nursing (RN). If it doesn't go well then I have to wait 'till the Fall 2013.. I think I need a break first because the RN program is going to be demanding! We're still young.. so :) Oh, and good luck! If you would like to be friend on FB, let me know! Since we're both on the same track :)

Oh, and to answer your question, yes, I think you should go for the CNA first and then work as a CNA while on the RN program.
