[banana][/banana]99.9% cna.....my friend went through the training but never took her boards her mom got termenly ill with cancer so she was focused on caring for her mom at that time. after her mom passed she just let it go by the wayside because she felt it was too late. so now it has been about ten yrs but she still really wants this. can someone finish a cna program and not work in that field for 10 years still go back and take their boards?

thanks for any info you all can give me....the lvn

It would all depend upon the regulations for the state she lives in, but I doubt it.

I know in Texas you can work as an "NA" for two years before having to take your boards. If you wait longer than two years, you have to retake the class.

I am not sure; as the previous poster said, it would depend on what state you live in. Personally, I would retake the class to ensure that I remember everything and to see what may have changed.

I am not surprized, though. We have the same issues with nurses. There are some that graduated and have not taken the boards for 10 years. It may be fear...especially now with Internet access. I kept reading the NCLEX discussion boards for nurses and saw so many people that mentioned they failed, that it did scare me. I had to stop reading their comments and focus on myself.

I wish your friend the best of luck!

In most state the CNA class is only good for a few years but it

never hurts to call your state agency to see what they say.

Sometimes it is good to take the class again anyway so passing

the test is easier. If I know what state you are in I can give you

the number of the state agency to call.
