CNA EXPERIENCE NEEDED OR NOT

I AM A NEW NURSING STUDENT,SOME PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME TO TAKE A CNA COURSE THAT IT WILL HELP ME BEFORE I START MY CLINICALS.OTHER PEOPLE TELL ME THE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE WILL BE ENOUGH. THE ADN PROGRAM IM IN HAS A VERY EXTENSIVE CLINICAL PLAN. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INSIGHT ON THIS MATTER.

Our ADN program requires students to be CNAI

prior to their admission into the actual nursing curriculum. Time is therefore freed to acquiring additional, more complex skills during fundamentals.

Plus, you'll be able to find a job during all of your "free" time! Good Luck in school!

When I was in nursing school we automatically recieved a "CNA II" status upon completion of our first year of clinicals. Personally, I would not take time out of nursing school to become a CNA unless it was required.

CNA's are great....espically when you have a high patient load. However, I do not think that I would take the time out to become a CNA if you are in nursing school or are planning on starting soon. The things that CNA's do you will learn within the first couple of months of nursing school and you will have plenty of time to practice durring your first year of clinical. Not only will you do this work the first year of clinical, you will be doing it the rest of your time as a nurse. I don't think that taking the CNA class is going to help that much. Most of the clinical stuff comes alot easier than the book work.
