CNA Cert. with no experience: how to land a job.

I am interested in getting my CNA certification to gain experience in the medical field while in college. However, as an 18 year old male, I'm uncertain as to how feasible it will be to land a CNA job after getting my certification. I really would like to work in a LTC facility. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to market myself?

I volunteered at a local hospital for over a year, and I'm about to start volunteering at my University's hospital. Like I said earlier, I really would like this job to gain experience and add some direct patient care hours to my resume.

Hospitals may expect experience because they pay more, however CNA work is seen as entry level and many long-term care facilities (and even a few hospitals) will hire you with out work experience and train on the job. The fact you have health-care volunteer experience is a plus. Otherwise stress any jobs, volunteer activities, extra curricular or social activities that you can use for examples to show skills like time management, responsible behavior, customer service, and good interpersonal skills.

I think this is a great idea. You should have no problem getting a job after getting certified. Being a male works in your favor as well as wanting to work in a long-term care facility. They are always short staffed unfortunately due to the type of work. It would be a great way to get experience and be exposed to that side of nursing. Also, having already been volunteering in the hospital you've got a good foot in the door with possibly landing a job there! Certifications and experience are always helpful!
