The gender wage gap has recently come under intense scrutiny, but it's important to note that this gap persists even in fields like nursing, which has historically been female-dominated. The Nursing@Simmons family nurse practitioner program took a deeper look at this issue, and made some truly key points.
Women in the nursing field need to advocate for themselves and support each other to achieve pay equity. Female nurses should be aware that often times the compensation is a bit less rigid than they expect, and that is acceptable to ask for those well-deserved raises. The Simmons piece highlights that this dialogue has just begun, and that hopefully these conversations will result in a shift in the pay scale.

That's another reason to support unionization. Unions ensure that nurses are fairly compensated according to years of experience and rates are published. Gender is not a factor at all.
