I went through VMI and I currently am a CLNC. My certification expires in September. Problem is, I lost my job and I am disabled (currently awaiting appeal for SSD), so I have no money. I cannot pay for the conference, or anything else that is offered from VMI to recertify. When it expires, can I use LNC? Am I still an LNC? Do I have to take the test again? Please help!

Hello,
I am sorry that things are like this for you. I will keep you in my thoughts...
Yes, you can use LNC after your name. No problem with that. You are still a Legal Nurse Consultant even if you are not certified.
And, yes, you will have to re-take the Milazzo certification examination to become re-certified if you so choose, unless things have changed there. And, I do not think they have.
I wish you all good things.
Thank you. If in the future I had enough money to, could I take a recertification exam through AALNC without having to retake the course?

Yes you can take the AALNC certification exam as long as you have 2000 hours of legal nurse consultant experience.

you are welcome, lecavalier.
once you meet the requirements to sit for the aalnc certification, you can take the examination.
but, you took the milazzo course, so you'd have to make arrangements to sit for recertification if you choose to do that.
right now, there is no requirement with the aalnc to be formally educated as an lnc prior to sitting for their certification examination. and, anyone can sit for this examination with or without formal lnc training including those who took the milazzo course and became certified with her.
to become a legal nurse consultant certified (lncc), the alnccb requires that a candidate meet all eligibility criteria, complete the application form, pay all fees, and achieve a passing score on the certification examination. no individual shall be excluded from the opportunity to participate in alnccb's certification program on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability. to be eligible to take the examination, candidates must have the following at the time of application:current licensure as a registered nurse in the united states or its territories, with a full and unrestricted licensea minimum of five years of experience practicing as a registered nurseevidence of 2000 hours of legal nurse consulting experience within the past three years.those who meet the eligibility criteria and successfully complete the examination will earn the legal nurse consultant certified (lncc) credential.

thanks siri and tnbutterfly! i love this board because everyone is so supportive and always have great advice! i'm glad to know that i can still be an lnc! my clnc business didn't go very well, but i plan to revamp my marketing packages and not be so nervous about marketing myself! i guess that's the hardest part of being an lnc - marketing yourself.
I wish you the best of luck as you attempt to revamp things. There are lots of marketing tips here in the legal nursing forum.
thank you very much! :)
Totally understand. I do wish you well. It takes some time to get the business off the ground. Wishing ALL good things for you in the future. And, you know you can come to tnbutterfly and me anytime.
Thanks, I really appreciate that.
