Hello Everyone!

I've just passed my certification for CLNC through VM Institute and could use some helpful advice. I'm purchasing business cards, letterhead stationary, and matching envelopes. I am wondering if its necessary to purchase brochures at this point. Would a good letter of introduction be just as effective and cost less? I have also made up some sample reports since they seem to be a valuable marketing tool as well. I would really appreciate any of your thoughts!!!:) :) :)

to answer your question regarding brochures - no, it's not necessary right off the bat. a powerful letter of introduction will serve the same purpose. if you so choose, you may include a list of "services provided" and "types of cases" as an enclosure. the bulk of your expense should be on the development of a very professional letterhead and business card.

later, you might think of investing in the creation of a brochure. i do suggest that you consider sending newsletters, however. you must create a data base of potential/current clients. then, send to them quarterly. follow up as needed after sending these.

many printing companies and other entities to choose from out there that can help you create that newsletter and brochures as well as a host of other ideas. you will spend a great deal of time fine-tuning your marketing package. it is something on which you will constantly work to make as professional-looking as possible.

check with the naclnc site for sample reports, too. as you know, only clncs may download those reports.

Congratulations on taking that giant step! Something I did when I first started out was I subscribed to a city business paper that came out biweekly and listed attorney firms and their specialties, insurance companies, etc. It would list special awards that were given, things like that and I would have cards printed up with my company name on them & send them out with a personal handwritten note inside-for instance there was a luncheon in January for the 50 attorneys that were awarded for leadership in law & I sent each of them one. All it really cost me was the postage and maybe $10.00 for the cards as I order them only when they are on a really good sale. I pore over that paper ever 2 weeks when I get it as there is always something in it that benefits me, its already paid for the cost of the subscription.

You might consider sending press releases to your local paper regarding the opening of your business, I sent them to every paper in the state.

You might also consider putting together some power point presentations & hitting up your local bar associations to let you give some presentations.

I agree with siri, I wouldn't do brochures yet, have you thought about postcards? They are MUCH cheaper and you can get a lot of info on them. The site I get them from usually has some great deals. I have 3 or 4 different designs in those that I rotate through and then I have brochures but I usually prefer to save those for conferences I present at as they are much more expensive.

Thanks so much for the great ideas and encouragement! There is just no substitute for learning from people with actual job experience. I am just starting to "get out there" and I will let you all know how it goes!:)
