Clinical Requirement SEC Assessment in BC

Published

Hello!

I have been trying to register (unsuccessfully) with Kwantlen for the Consolidated Course since last year. They have been taking in only 10 students per season. Anybody else with me here? I am concerned as I am nearing the expiration of my CRNBC application (after which I would need to reapply).

Has anybody completed this requirement with Thomson Rivers University?

Has anybody had their CRNBC application expired as well? What did you do afterwards?

I am also considering registering in Alberta as some colleagues have mentioned that it is easier to complete requirements there.

Any information that you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

I applied to Kwantlen in March last year, they gave me time for SEC somewhere in September. Due to family circumstances I postponed it after that for November.

Now I need to take re-entry program. I applied to Kwantlen, but again due to family situation it will be hard for me to study full-time for year. My best option is to apply to TRU OL. Now I'm in a progress of TRU application. They mentioned that my clinical placement will be in Greater Vancouver area.

Hello,

I have been inquiring about their clinical course and have been informed that they do prioritize students who have taken the re-entry course in placing for clinicals. However, I just need the Clinical course and they have told me that they can place me anywhere in BC and as I small children, I am not sure if I can handle being placed in the Yukon (!). Do they have a schedule for enrollement or is it yearlong?

Thanks for your reply!

You need to brush up on your geography. The Yukon isn't in BC!

"Courses with practicum activities are typically held in BC and the Yukon. Applicants residing outside BC who want to complete the program may participate at practicum sites in BC or in their home province if appropriate arrangements can be made. Punctual attendance and active participation is required. Students are responsible for all costs associated with labs and practice activities. Labs and practicum activities may be limited by geographic location, time of year, space and enrolment. Practicum placements cannot be guaranteed in the student's home region." --- is what it says on their website (TRU). But you're right, I need to learn Canada's geography. Thanks!

Hi Sophie,

You are not alone. Each year they prepare atleast 60 students for consolidated clinical course only, and now they reduced the batch strength to 10.As a result about 30 students will pile up each year.I have been waiting from last summer, but still not included in the lucky 10.Since it is a complicated situation,I suggest you to contact CRNBC(any senior assessor ofcourse,) and sometimes they will extend your time limit:depending upon their critaria.

Best wishes.

Kwantlen is registering students on first come-first served basis. Do you think they would consider registering their students based on application timeline? I was considering emailing them but am too afraid to ruin any little chance that I got. I am getting desperate.

Hi Sophie,

I already e mailed to DEAN and CRNBC because there is nobody to fight for us.Anyway, still the situation is like"there is nothing we can do on this matter and I dont know how we are going to manage it" type of reply. They don't have a selection critaria still, and they are going to repeat the same for summer.Only thing we can do is to watch and watch their website hourly or more frequently.Last fall I checked their website at 2pm and went to pick my child from school. The update was posted at 2.30 pm and they closed the registration at 4pm.So,I missed.Spring was like Gladiators fight, and my email reached their 26 seconds late. One of my friend is trying to do it with TRU,but so far she did'nt get any preceptor, but I heared sometimes they get in vancouver area.

Make sure all your pre requisites are up to date because they are waiting for any chance to excuse.(Last time some had those problems too)You can send an email asking for an appointment for verification of documents(kind of risk prevention) and watch the scedule Q Hrly or even Q 30 minutely because now the competition is more difficult.I also don't know what will happen, but

lets hope for the best.

Regards,

Mary Joseph
