What did your program require? Mine required a thesis. All done with it thank god. "Exploring Professional Development Deterrents of Night Shift Nurses". Great bedtime reading lol.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

For my MSN (management and leadership) I did a Capstone project - sorry can't even remember the topic.

Specializes in nursing education.

Congratulations, Nicolein!! How wonderful to be done. Just curious what you found in doing your thesis. I found that my professional development was close to ZERO working night shifts. (Not sure exactly what I will all have to do, but it is Capstone rather than thesis style).

I initially wanted to do a qualitative study but my advisor in her infinite wisdom lead me down the quantitative route (the thought of the statistical analysis made me nauseous). I used to tool that had been used in previous studies called the deterrents to participation scale (dps). It had 40 statements divided in 6 categories and I found time constraints and cost to be the most deterring factors. Broken down into cost, family constraints, work (time) constraints, disengagement, lack of quality.
