I'm looking for a new job in our health system (probably clinic positions) but most positions come only with 4 hours of admin days per week. My current management sucks but NPs have 8 hour admin days per week which is really nice. It's really difficult to negotiate admin days with new positions especially other NPs already there have only 4 hours.
Just wonder how many admin hours do you have per week?
Whether it is OK to inquire with current NPs about admin days prior to applying for the job?

There are never enough admin hours. I am granted 2 hours a week and had to fight for those. Admin hours are becoming more popular as a "benefit" to ask for when negotiating the job. It is reasonable to ask about this when interviewing or when talking with other staff.

First NP job I had zero admin hours for 2 years then only got 4 hours a month. I was taking weeks to finish notes. It sucked. Current job I get 8 hours a week split as 4 hours on two separate days a week (Tues and Fri). Admin time is the greatest for sure.

Hunh??? Admin time, what's that? I see pts in the office one day per week and the other 4 days I round on dialysis pts. I prep my office charts at home usually

My clinic schedules patients from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (sometimes 4:45 PM). We get whatever time we have between the last patient and 6:00 PM to chart. Does that count as admin time? For those who have admin time, can you describe your patient schedule and admin schedule please? For those who do not have admin time, does that mean patients are scheduled all throughout clinic opening time and closing time and you don’t have any time where patients are not scheduled?

Never had any. Don't need any. All my charting is completed by close of business each day. I don't chart at any time other than when I'm at work. Office hours are M-F 0800-1630.
I am supposed to see patients from 8am to 12p and 1p to 4:30p on my full work days. Most of the time, I only take about 30minutes for lunch. Wed and Thursday afternoons are my admin days. If I have finished all my work, I typically will go home and check messages one more time at home later on. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to schedules with 0-4 hr admin hours per week. If I ever change jobs and 8 hour admin days are not possible, I think I'll request 36 hour weekly work hours and a pay raise to offset the salary loss (I hope my thoughts are not too naive)
