I would like to know anyone's thoughts on job security. I have resumes out there with clinics already and I'm 40 years old. Job security-wise and wanting to stay 20 plus years ideally somewhere, I've wondered is it wiser to go into a hospital system? What if my clinic Dr. retires and I'm somewhat close to retiring. Will I have trouble finding work as other non-medical professions do?

If the doctor your working with retires before you are ready to retire there may be more opportunities in other clinics, as there will likely be doctors to take over the patient caseload of the retiring doctors. Also, you may find it better for your own health to do clinic work instead of hospital shift work. I see alot of nurses who have worked in hospital, rehab or long term care and have back, knee and wrist injuries that are aggravated by continueing to work at the bedside.
Thats a good point.
Thanks
