Cliff Notes?

I noticed the other day that our syllabus says that using Cliff Notes is cheating. I have never used a Cliff Notes or even seen the inside of one but I always thought that Cliff Notes were just a summary of another book.

My question is: how is that cheating?

    Using them for what? I know you aren't supposed to use them for writing papers.

    I don't know. Anything I guess. But we don't write papers. Maybe we aren't supposed to use them for tests.

    But I still don't see how that would be cheating.

    I find that certain paragraphs on all of the college syllabi say the exact same things to cover anything and everything that a student could get in trouble for. I have yet to see Cliff Notes for anything nursing related but you know I'm going to start looking.
