Cleveland State University Accelerated BSN Program

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello out there - Has anyone out there been accepted to, enrolled in, or graduated from the accelerated BSN program at Cleveland State University? If so, I have two questions for you!

1) What were your application statistics? (Undergrad/Prereq. GPA, previous degree(s)/field of employment, any experience in the medical field, etc.) Also, who provided your recommendations (profs, bosses or someone else)?

2) What is your overall opinion of the program? How prepared were you to start as a new RN?

The only information the moderator of the info session was able to provide about the successful applicants is that the average undergraduate GPA was 3.0 and the average prerequisite GPA was 3.2. That doesn't seem very high to me - and they only accepted 27 (30 slots were available) out of over 120 applicants! I'm just wondering if I could get more information from anyone who DID get in!

Thanks so much for your input!

full acceptance to the program minimally requires completion of all prerequisite coursework with a grade of c or better, a prerequisite grade point average of 2.75, and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5. successful completion of the nln preadmission exam is also required. once admitted, continued enrollment requires that students achieve a grade of c or better in each nursing and support course, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and maintain a nursing grade point average of 2.5 each semester.

students in the basic and rn to bsn tracks may complete their programs through full-time or part-time study. courses in the rn to bsn track are scheduled to meet one day per week each semester and are available at csu's downtown campus, lakeland community college, and metrohealth medical center. the accelerated bsn program may not be completed as a part-time student and is offered in conjunction with the cleveland clinic.

Someone I used to work with went there. I lost touch with her so I don't know if she has graduated yet or not. She said most people's GPAs were around 3.5 and their majors were everything from business to biology. I was asking her why there were spaces open and she said that people didn't meet the prereqs, changed their mind, etc. What I remember her saying most was that they were super bad with organization in terms of paperwork. I don't now about CSU specifically, but nurses that I've talked to who went to accelerated programs said that they felt pretty much as prepared as nurses in regular programs. No matter what, the accelerated programs are extremely challenging and fast paced.

I think you can't go by their stats... my friend who is currently in the program thought that 1/2 her class probably never got a A in undergrad. She had mostly A's when she applied and got in with no "community service." I know of someone else who has a 4.0 in prereqs and a 3.5 undergrad GPA that didn't even get an interview. I would of that stats like that would be competitive.
