Cleveland Clinic orientation exam questions?...

Published

hi,

i'm starting my cleveland clinic orientation soon and will be taking the PBDS assessment and their METI eDose math exam. I would really appreciate some feedback. how hard did you find the tests? any tips on what to study?

for the PBDS i am studying the main med/surg emergencies and their interventions.

for the drug calculation test i'm using a reference guide and doing practice questions, but this exam worries me the most as i have to get 90%. any tips would be greatly appreciated!

lastly, i was told we get the chance to retest again for these exams, do you know if many people do not pass the first time? and how soon would you be retested?

thanks!

I hope to make it that far. I got my RN officially last month, I had a new-grad phone interview and I went to two in-person interviews yesterday. I had what I thought was a really good interview and I left with a good impression. I hope to get a position there on main campus. If so, I will take the PBDS assessment to find out where I'm currently at, so they know where my strengths and weaknesses are. The Clinic's new grad program helps get you going without throwing you to the wolves right away. Most of the other area hospitals want experienced nurses only. Where are we supposed to acquire the experience?? Great job by the Clinic!

I think you want to go in with what you know so they can assist you with what you need to know.

ChipJe,

I just had a phone interview with the Cleveland Clinic yesterday (I passed my NCLEX a week ago). How long did it take you to find out you had an in person interview after your phone interview? I am nervous about not getting an in person interview (I really need to start working to pay my bills).

Thanks!

After I had the phone interview, they said they would move my application into the 'active' area for new nurses. It was about a week later that I received an email from the Talent Acquisition Team that directed me to 3 openings for new nurses. I responded with my preferences and told them when I was available for an interview and they set it up. In talking to a few nurses there, I found out that it is a good time to be interviewing. Last year at this time, there was no hiring going on. I do hope this helps, I am anxious to get started myself. Good luck to you!

I heard they like volunteer work too. I joined the county Medical Reserve Corps and I just had a flu shot clinic. Yay! The first time I actually used my license and got a bit of experience too! See if your county has a volunteer only Medical Reserve Corps or MRC. They were instituted by President Bush after 9-11 to help organize and mobilize medical volunteers.

Thank you so much for your advice! Will you be working in downtown? And I am definitely looking into the volunteer only Medical Reserve Corps! Thank you so much!

I hope so! And you're welcome!

I have a phone interview this week but my end goal is working in the NICU, does anyone know if this unit is even an option without experience? Or even an ON or peds floor? Just don't want to ask for something unrealistic since any unit can give me a foot in the door if nothing else :)

I just went through orientation and there were two new grads, one in picu and one in nicu. It's doable but you have a lot of people who want to be in those departments so it is very competitive.

Gotcha! I just wanted to make sure it was even a possibility! Thanks for the info

I would flat-out refuse to take it based on what I know now. They ask you to practice out of your scope to complete this assessment.

Sure, refuse. Then find another job.

Your job does not depend on these tests.

The test see's where your understanding is and then shows you where you need improvement.

It's to HELP you. There is no 'out of your scope'. Sheesh

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone was offered a per-diem position at Cleveland Clinic and if you have some suggestions in the pre-testing requirement for the hiring process.

I will be taking the Arrhythmia, Medication and Behavioral Assessment Test. Does anyone know by any chance what I would need to focus on/prepare in passing these exams? I would appreciate your help very much.

Thank you in advance.
