Has anyone taken any of the CLEP tests? For those who don't know what these are they are tests you can take for certain courses, and if you get a certain number of points you don't have to take that specific course. If anyone has taken the CLEPs for Bio or Chem could you please tell me how it went, is it difficult, and what study aids you used.
It would be a great help.
Thanks,
Sonja

I CLEPd English, not sciences, but it was the easiest test I'd ever taken. It was for Freshman Comp 101-102.
Make sure you take the test in the right category. There are two categories, if I recall they were General and Subject. Schools don't take one of them.

Yup, CLEP'd outta freshman comp (had taken and passed with an A 18 years ago and was damned if I was going to take English again) and am going to CLEP outta Soc. it costs about $65, as opposed to $900 for the class at my nursing college. As far as prep goes, there are 'how to take the CLEP test' books with sample tests and the like or for me, and the soc CLEP, I bought the text book and will read it over the holiday and take the test in Jan. One thing, if you take it and fail you cannot retake it for 6 months - the nice thing is, you get your score instantly. Each institution has it's own requirement for what is concidered a 'passing' score (in my case a '50' on the english test). Be sure to ask which classes your school will accept CLEP's for and the scores needed for credit.
Good Luck!

I clepped out of Sociology and it was really easy. I went on half.com and got the CLEP book specifically for sociology, which was helpful for the test questions (some of which did appear again on the actual exam), and also bought "The Developing Person thru the Lifespan" by Berger - both the text & the workbook. I studied a bit out of those, though I shouldn't have bought the workbook b/c I didn't use it as much.
I found the sample test questions in the CLEP prep book to be much more difficult than the questions on the actual exam.
Hi all- I bought the Soc text that is used by my college so, in the event that I don't pass the CLEP I can use it for class.
It is Sociology for the Twenty-First Century, 4th edition by Curry, Jiobu and Schwirian
it was 40 something dollars and shipping was cheap, from a great web site http://www.findbooks.com. It's a paperback, very short and has tests at the end of each chapter - if I can get through those, I should be able to get through the CLEP.
Good day and good luck
Awesome! Thanks for the info. guys. I'm definitely going to at least give these tests a shot. Sounds like a good idea.
