Hey, all! Through all the other threads, I haven't been able to keep track of who is going where. Any confirmed CCC students for Fall 2011 out there? Introduce yourself! I'll start -- My name is Mary, I plan to go the BSN route even though I'd prefer to finish sooner rather than later (already did 4 years at Linfield for a degree in exercise physiology). I'm *super* excited to get going, even though it will be a huge transition for me in a lot of ways. I'm also very excited (obviously) to meet all of you and form study groups! (nerd alert!)
Anyone have any insight into:
-what the schedule will be like?
-how much this is really going to cost?
-what you'll do for health insurance, if you'll need it?
-what books we'll need?
I'm sure this will be covered in orientation, but that's so far away from now...

Well I guess I'll be the first to reply to this thread. Hi! My name is Terri, and I'm so excited to be accepted into the CCC program. It has been my first choice since I started my prereq's. I, too, definitely plan to go for the BSN, although I know what you mean about wanting to get starting working in the nursing field sooner. It sounds like doing the last year at OHSU is mostly on-line so maybe working at least part-time will be an option. I can hardly wait for orientation on the 10th so we can get more information about everything. I do know that the tuition is very reasonable - about $5000 a year and we'll have to spend about $1000 for books before the first term starts but then they will be the ones we use throughout the program. I'm eager to buy my books ASAP so I can start reading ahead. I'm all for forming study groups too! I'm not sure about the schedule but I heard that there will usually be class or clinicals Mondays through Fridays. It will be intense but I can't wait!

Congratulations! I'm not part of your cohort, I'll be working on my pre-requisites this summer and fall and hopefully be ready to apply next year. CCC is my first choice. I have a BA in communication studies and have been working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for 10 years. So going back to school is both exiting and stress producing for me. I'm contemplating applying to OHSU for their accelerated program but not sure if that's a possibility yet. I am married and a mother of two, so we will all need to make a lot of sacrifices to make this happen. Any tips for someone that is still working on pre-requisites? I need to take BIO 112 this summer so that I can take BIO 231 in the fall. the problem is that BIO 112 is already full so I'll need to just show up and hope that I am allowed to register.....any tips?
Orientation is tomorrow! Is everyone excited? I must've been thinking about school before bed last night because I had a dream that nursing school was like a musical: the instructors sang the lectures and the students had choreographed dances using bedpans and IV poles as props. It was absurd. I woke up and thought "...what?!" It made me giggle. Looking forward to meeting our class tomorrow!
Definitely show up to 112 and try to get signed in. Are there any other 112 sections at different schools you'd be able to get into? Once you get to A+P -- keep it in the back of your mind that it can make or break your application, or at least give you a strong boost or drag, depending on how you do. I took it at Linfield and didn't do so well, so I retook it at PCC for better grades (A, B, B). Since a lot of anatomy is just plain memorization, try to get together with a study group to just drill each other in it. Even though I didn't have all As in A+P, Clackamas's point system was in my favor - 5 points for an A in 231, and 5 points for finishing all 3 classes (or was that for finishing all prereqs? I don't remember). Anyway, just keep pushing. Your hard work *will* pay off. Good luck!

Hi Kathryn, may I ask you one question pls? Do you know how many accepted people were at orientation of CCC yesterday? I just want to know how many alternates will be called by that number of accepted people! I really appreciate any information from you guys, thank you
It looked to me like there was a full class there. There were probably 10 or so people who had been admitted off the waitlist, as they had to turn in their written intent to accept their admission at the orientation to make the jun 10 deadline. One woman received her acceptance phone call that morning, so unless someone doesn't turn in the required info by the deadline or has to drop out for another reason, I think the class is set.
Thank you Jimithing, do you mean there are about 10 alternates who have been called to the orientation? Thank you!
They were present at the orientation, yes.
One of the staff also mentioned that typically there are a couple of people that "have life happen to them" and have to decline enrollment before the beginning of the term, so there's still a chance if you are at the top of the remaining alternate list.
Anyone signing up for any non-nursing classes in the fall? I'm going to take writing 123 online - get it out of the way and get my 12 credits so I'll be considered full time.
