I just got my acceptance letter to begin the nursing program at City College, Ft. Lauderdale. I start January 2012! I'm excited about it but at the same time, I'm afraid that I'm making a mistake. I've heard so many bad things about City College that I'm starting to have my doubts. Has anyone graduated from City College? If so, have you had any problems getting a job? Has anyone graduated from City College and had problems transferring credits? Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have been thinking of starting the program as well, just like you, it wouldn't seat well with me if my ability not to find a job as any link to city college. Since i am already taking a&p1 at bcc, i planned on finish than sign with them.
Coincidentally, I ran into a nurse who graduated from City College when I went to get my physical for school today. As she was drawing my blood, I asked her out of curiosity what school she graduated from. When she said "City College" I couldn't beleive it! It was music to my ears. She said that she had no problems getting a job or transferring credits for her BSN, which she is currently working on. This is good news for us! Looks like it's safe for you to register to City College.
This is a relief and a peace of mind!!

If any of you dont mind me asking. How is it that you managed to pay the tuition of City College? its quite expensive!
@Sil2012 They accepted my TEAS score but I was told that they aren't gonna be taking it after this semester and my score wasn't all that high and it doesn't really go by gpa but I believe that TABE score has to be high enough, and you have to get all B's in all of the nursing classes as well as some pre reqs.
@Chris787n As far as paying for it, I'm taking out loans.

I spoke with an adviser yesterday. The whole program, assuming you have not taking a single prereq, is $48,000.00. It's pretty expensive. As far as what you need in order to be accepted, all they require from you is the $40.00 registration fee and the TABE scores. If you have not taken the TABE, you can at the college and it's $100.00. You need to do pretty good on the TABE, but it's only English and Math based. No science. The adviser mentioned that if you have taken college-level English and Math, you should pass the TABE easily without having to buy the study guide (which is another $20.00).
The school is NOT NLNAC or CCNE accredited, but it IS accepted by FL BON. So you WILL be able to sit down for the N-CLEX. City College is also including a Kaplan N-CLEX review class with your tuition.
If you're looking to move out of state eventually, the lack of NLNAC/CCNE accreditation might be a problem. For example, for NV, UT, and NY, they require all out-of-state nurses to have passed the N-CLEX AND gone to an NLNAC/CCNE accredited school.
However, if you're in no rush and want to enjoy sunny south Florida for a bit before moving, there's hope. I talked to both FIU and UCF and they have informed me that they WILL accept City College credits if you have received an AS/AA from a regionally accredited school (like Broward College or Miami Dade College). You would have to join their RN-BSN program and it will be about three semesters to complete if you're going full-time.
My suggestion is to just go ahead and do all your prereqs at your local college. It's way cheaper and you come out of City College owing 38K rather than 48K.
I'm doing my TABE and turning in my paperwork on Thursday. I'm hoping to start May! I know they're still looking for January, but I need a break. Plus, I have one more semester before I'm done with all BSN gen ed courses. :)
See you guys around campus I hope! Sell me your books! lol
That was more lenghty than I imagined. Sorry guys!
