my circadian rhythm

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently finished precepting on night shifts because i am hoping to start off working nights. I am usually more of a night person but i am having trouble getting use to this new sleeping and eating patter since they have all changed now. I need to know the tricks and tips of working nights. How to stay awake, how to control hunger, how to get enough sleep! How do you switch back to waking up in the morning on your days off without dragging for the rest of the day or having headaches?

Thanks,

the girl who feels all out of whack!

When you get off work in the morning, come home, eat something light (like a yogurt or cottage cheese) and go to bed around 9-10 am. Shut off your phone, darken your room, and don't let anyone wake you up unless they are on fire or losing a limb. Wake up around 5-6 pm. I eat lunch at around 3 am, and not a lot, usually a salad or a sandwich. If you are going back to work at 11pm, it is helpful to just lay down before work, even if it's just for an hour. It makes you feel as though you woke up and went to work. Good luck with night shift!!!! I hope this helps

There are lots of threads on working night shift -- some of them are rather dated, but they all contain good information.

@document, thanks for the advice. It is very helpful.

@Ruby Vee, i will be sure to check out those other threads on night shift.

Thanks again for the comments!
