Chronic Sinusitis - Suffering!!

Published

For almost a year, I have been suffering with chronic sinusitis, seen numerous docs, been on numerous antibiotics. I can't deal with this anymore. If anything, the worst part about it is the chronic pain. It is not only in my sinuses but radiates into my jaw so bad - I can barely sleep at night. It hurts to lay my head on my pillow. I have been taking up to 8 extra strength tylenol and 6 extra strength advil per day - now that does not even touch the pain. I have taken that much pain meds for over a year. My doc refused to refer me to ENT - saying x-ray is normal. But how can that be??!! I have green/yellow slime coming out, pain and pressure, I cannot bend over forwards, dripping down my throat, body aches, etc. I have tries Biaxin for 30 days, now on amo/clav for 30 days - it's just not working. Tried steroid nasal sprays, saline nasal sprays - all with no results. Went to ER last week because the pain was soooo bad. Finally gave me oxycodone and different antibiotics but it has now been 7 days and those are not working!! I am so frustrated. tired of living in chronic pain, and don't want to take any more pills. Anyone heard or suffered with this? What can help me?? Thanks - any advice would be soooo much appreciated - I am at my wits end:crying2:

As others have said, be very aggressive in requesting that referral. Since you have been on numerous courses of antibiotics, you may consider that you have a fungal infection of some sort. Has the discharge been cultured at all? There is no need for you to suffer like that. I don't know why doctors think patients have no idea when something is wrong.

My husband suffered for over a year with a fractured ankle that left a tendon caught on a bone fragment. When he complained it hurt when he moved it in certain ways, his doctor told him not to move it like that. After being adamant about wanting a referral, the ortho surgeon he went to found the fracture alomost immediately, performed surgery, discovered the tendon problem, and now all is well.

Harrass them until you get what you want. Good luck.

I have had sinus/adenoid/ear/lymph infection since 1999, chronic. Staph in the sinuses, pseudomonas in the ears, and God knows what else. This is what has helped me:

-humidifier, constantly, big time

-augmentin....makes me hurl daily, but the only thing that works, and I have tried them ALL...IV, PO it doesn't matter, Augmentin is the only beast that made a dent

-the only thing that controls my pain is Stadol nasal spray. Turns me into jello, though, and can't work like that.

I still have the infection to this day...it ebbs and flows. It's just become a way of life. The ENT says take these antibiotics, let me cut you up and remove what I can, hope you don't get mastoiditis, and "you poor thing".

Good luck!
