Christus Santa Rosa Nurse Residency July 2019 cohort

Nurses New Nurse

Published

New member, didn't see a thread for this current Nurse Residency cohort.

Just got an offer this afternoon from the ER in New Braunfels! Can't wait to start. Any one else here in the process?

Graduating in May after 12 years as a paramedic, and 3 years as a tech in the ICU and ER before that. I'm coming to the area from Houston and would love to hear from my peers!

I got an offer for the Medical Center ER. I passed NCLEX over a month ago but I haven't been in a rush looking for a job. I've been working as a Paramedic part-time for Christus for a year and a half already. The people I work with are great so I don't mind waiting till July to start.

I worked PRN in the ER in New Braunfels about 10 years ago with a nurse who I think is now the ED Director over there. She would be good to work for.

Very good to hear! Mary Anne Holland is the current ER director at New Braunfels. Hope that's the same one you're speaking of.

Have you gotten your written offer yet? I was told either today or tomorrow for that. Looks like it'll be tomorrow since it's after 5. I'm new to the greater SA area, coming from Houston.

In Houston, pretty much all of the hospital systems give 1/2 credit for years of experience if you were previously a Paramedic or LVN. Ex: as a 12 year Paramedic, I'd be paid like a 6 year RN. I'm waiting to see if that's the case here. I asked the recruiter, and she said she wasn't sure, but if so that it would be indicated in the written offer. I'll be taking the position either way, just anxious to find out. I would imagine that "6" years would be a noticeable difference; so I'm a little antsy to see.

I was thinking someone else was the director. I've talked to Mary Anne I think, but I don't know her.

I was also told I would get my letter this week but haven't yet. A recruiter told me that Paramedics to get the 1/2 credit per year for experience. I would think you would start in the upper 20s per hour. A brand new nurse with zero experience starts at $24.70. Some of the nurses have also told me that ER and ICU RNs get an additional $2 per hour critical care differential. I haven't seen any of this, only been told by people I work with.

You'll like it in New Braunfels. They get a good variety of patients.

Sweet. Upper 20s is what I would've guessed as well.

Have you received your offer letter yet? I was told it would be last week, but haven't gotten it yet.

Got it mid day on Friday. Pay WAS altered to reflect my experience (phew!) but I'm not sure if there's any additional differential factored in for ER already. It was quoted to my as my base rate, so I'm not sure. It was 30.88 with 12 years paramedic experience. I feel like any ER differential is probably already in there, but I don't know for sure.

I finally got mine through email today. What date did yours give for when your employment starts? Mind states that my employment commences tomorrow, even though the residency doesn't start till July.

My date of hire is stated as July 8.

danielg_84 I was wondering if you knew how much they pay PCT's at the New Braunfel's hospital? I have been an LVN for 10+ years and am currently enrolled full-time in a BSN program. I am looking for a PRN position but I checked on their website and did not say any. I am willing to step down and get hired on as PCT to get my foot in the door and get acclimated to the hospital environment. Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately I have no clue. Sorry. Good luck!

Thanks! Is it pretty easy to get hired on with them?
