Christ Hospital School of Nursing Cincinnati

Published

Hi fellow Ohioans! Actually, I've lived in Chicago now for 3 years, but I hate it and miss home so I'm moving back this summer. Anyway, my question is has anyone heard of the above mentioned school? Has anyone been? If so has it prepared you for real life, and the N-CLEX? The desision to become an RN or LPN has been fairly recent for me as I have worked in journalism and studied it in school for many years. I, like others, have a very compassionate spirit, and REALLY want to help those in need. I just got sick of the shallowness of the media industry and wanted to do fulfilling work. I'm trying to get work in Illinois at the moment as a CNA so I can get my feet wet, but I just wanted to get some opinions on this school. It's a 2 year diploma program, but you still take the nclex. Any other good schools for this in cincy? Any suggestions would be much appriciated!!!! Thanks, louisepug:)

Specializes in PACU/Cardiac/Nrsg. Mgmt./M/S.

when is Christ Hospital going to pull out of the alliance? are any of the other hospitals planning to do the same?:nurse: :nurse:

Do these nursing schools have waits like at Sinclair or other places? Liek at Good Sam how long is there wait? Thanks!!!

Well speaking from experience, I have been accepted to both Christ and Good Sam for the fall of 2008. I thought that I was Good Sam bound and have already registered for first semester classes. Today I attended the Q & A session at Christ and now I cannot make my decision. I want to specialize in NICU or Peds, which Christ doesn't have these specialities.I really do not want to sign a 3 year committment for my tuition. I guess I'll send in my money to hold my spot while I decide. One negative thing is Christ does not accept any form of state or federal financial aid until at least fall of 2009. Good Sam has about 1 year waiting list. They admit students in Fall and in January. Christ only admits students starting in the fall.

Specializes in telemetry, cardiopulmonary stepdown, LTC. Hospice.

Then you saw me there! I was the heavy-set gal who was spouting about what a fantastic choice Christ is, and how they always are standing behind you not matter what your challenge is. That's very true, I have found.

Even if you sign the tuition benefit agreement, you can later go somewhere else if you can get the money together to buy the contract out, or if the other hospital will pay something towards it (many will).

We have a pediatric rotation for five weeks, we don't go to the NICU, but you can go into the critical care internship program after your time at Christ, and they will train you to be ready for such assignments. You might get your role transition class at Children's, if you ask for it, and can then focus on things like that more.

It does stink that they don't have the financial aid available yet, but I know they talked about the other forms of aid they have available to students for right now.

Well, I wish you the best, no matter which place you choose. I've really enjoyed my time at Christ College. It has been very hard, tiring, but I feel I have learned so much. I am frantically getting prepared for the HESI tests and NCLEX prep stuff now, and for role transition this summer. I've come so very far and have maintained an A average while still driving over an hour and having a home life with my husband and three daughters. It hasn't been easy to do, but this means an awful lot for us. I have never had a time when I could not go to someone in this program and ask for help and receive it. They have bugs in their system, as they transition to a college from a diploma school, but they do care and work hard to develop excellent nurses.

Congrats on your exciting future!!:yeah:

I was impressed with the information I heard at the financial aid session on Saturday. I really appreciate your input. I would like it if you could private email me so I can ask more questions if that would be ok.

Thanks
