Hello :balloons:
I thought it would be neat to get a group board up for us new nursing students at Christ.. to have a place to chat about anything...teachers, homework, ... etc
So... :groupwelcome:
Hello,
I found out last Friday that I got in also! Yay, I'm so excited. I have a couple questions if anyone could help me;
1. If you take the two year route are you able to work?
2. Does the hospital offer any jobs to students?
3. Did anyone sign the 3 yr contract to pay for their tuition? If so could you tell me more about it?
Thanks for putting this post up, I've been yearning to talk to students from the program.
Lea
Leaelina,
Congratulations on your acceptance!! Isn't it so exciting?!? Are you going to the information session on the 29th (this Saturday)? That would be a great chance to talk to the people there and get their answers to your questions. I'll tell you what I know so far...
1. I don't know if you'd be able to work doing the two-year track. If you were, I'd assume it would be part-time and not a whole lot of hours.
2. In the packet I have from them, it says that there is a job board and the hospital has numerous positions available to students. FYI, on Christ's website, I found a ton of Patient Care Assistant positions that are available to nursing students.

3. I haven't signed the Tuition Benefit Agreement yet, but will as soon as they are sent out. Did you get a Financial Aid packet? There's a whole page in there about that. Very informative.
Sorry I don't know too much more... since I am not a current student yet... best of luck to you!

leaelina,
i forgot to add this, but you can call vicky gaffney (the assistant dean of student services) and ask her your questions. that's what i did and she was extremely helpful. her email is [color=#0068cf][email protected] and her number is 513-585-2052 . good luck!

How many of you are planning on singing the Tuition Benefit Agreement? I took it from the information session that we are paid comparably to other nurses, and we are just taxed on the money each pay. I find it odd that not many people have replied to the posts about working at Christ or attending college there. If you look at other Cincinnati posts many people recommend Univeristy, Good Sam and other hospitals as places to work, but not much is mentioned about Christ. I have heard great things about Christ and even had my gallbladder removed there last year. I'm happy that in July they will have full approval on the ONB website.
i too found it very odd that hardly anyone was replying to the threads about working at christ. i have started a couple of threads about this topic, with hardly any replies. i have heard amazing things about christ. i am definately signing the tuition benefit agreement. i figure it would be nice to have a guaranteed job right out of school. and even if i chose to leave christ, i'd have 3 solid years of expericence on my resume. i also like that we are treated the same as any other rn who works there (able to pick our unit, pay is the same, etc), and that they also provide tuition reimbursement for the bsn degree (although i'm sure most hospitals do this). i can't even describe out excited/anxious i am to be starting christ this august. like you, i am very glad they will have full approval by july as well. it seemed like the obn had very good things to say about the program. so healthlink, have you decided to attend christ, or are you still trying to figure it out between there and good sam? okay, time for bed...

I plan on signing the tuition benefit agreement also! I talked to one of the ladies after the talk last Saturday and she said it is truly is a great way to get through nursing school. I would have to agree, it sounds too good to be true! Has anyone applied for any jobs at Christ to work for during school? I applied for a patient escort job and got an email back saying that they have narrowed their candidate pool to those who best fit the requirement of the position. The only requirement mentioned was a high school diploma.
Well, I'm also very excited to start in August. I will be taking the three year route, what route do you think you guys might take?
No I have not decided. I talked to Ms. Gaffney and explained my situation, and she even commented on how Good Sam has a stellar program. I'm sending in my $ this week and until I decide I will fufill the requirements for the physical etc. I'm leaning towards Christ also because I probably will not get into Nursing clinicals the first semester at Good Sam. Of course this will delay graduation. There are so many good things about both programs. I feel that I cannot make a bad decision. One thing I like is that Chemistry is not a required part of the science curriculum. I didn't take Chemistry in high school and I do not know how easy it will be at the college level. What ages are you guys? I'm 39 and I felt there was not many non-traditional students coming in August. I guess it was hard to tell since many people brought someone with them. Although there were the two or three current students who talked that were non traditional. I'm currently taking an online english course since my credits are too old. Hopefully this will prepare me for the english entrance exam.
Christy:yeah:
i just applied for a job as a health unit coordinator, so i'm crossing my fingers. i wanted to apply for a pca or transport position, but all i found were either full time or 3rd shift. both of those wouldn't work for me with school and all. i'm going to do the two year track. i've already had a go-around with college and have been waiting for over 2 years already, so i want to jump in and be an rn! but of course, i may change my mind at some point. are any of you guys going to have a laptop or pda or anything for school? i'm really thinking about getting a laptop for note taking, or just to work on things while i'm at school. i also think i'd like it for when my bf is out in the living room and i want to be with him, but still study at the same time.

ms. gaffney seemed really nice and willing to help/advise. i've heard good things about good sam's program too. i think you're correct when you said that you don't think you can go wrong choosing between christ and good sam. i didn't realize that you wouldn't get into clinicals your first semester at good sam. i was also glad that chemistry wasn't a part of the science curriculum. i took in high school and in college and i just do not like it at all. there is a little bit of chemistry involved in a&p, but it's easy to pick it up as a part of the class. that's a good idea to freshen up on the english. i'm going through and reading over my old essays from college to prepare me for the placement exam. i really do not want to take english again. i am will be 23 when i start at christ. i agree with you that there weren't as many non-traditional students there. most of the people i saw looked like they were high school students, or just out of high school. well good luck with your decision christy! consider it a blessing to have two great nursing schools to choose from!

I have a laptop that I will be taking to class. I think they're great for note taking. My only prob is I have to load microsoft word onto it, I only have notepad or something like that. I really thought of taking the two year track and if I were still living with my parents I would, but I know it would be more sensible for me to take the three year track. I'm 19 and after I graduated from high school I took a year off to be a nanny, so I guess you could say I'm a kind of non-traditional student. Hehe Good luck to you both Amanda and Christy!

Thanks for putting up this wonderful post, I've been dying to talk to people from the school.
