Choosing what state to take the Nclex exam

Published

Hello everybody, :balloons:

I just passed my board exam this June 2006 in the Philippines and my family is from New Jersey, but there are so many requirements needed by New Jersey like CES so I am planning to take NClex in another state. My choices are California, New Mexico, Vermont and New york  . Alot of people say that New York is the fastest way to get a greencard and a license but someone posted here that the processing time for CVS which is a requirement for New York takes 4 to 8 months and I think that is way too long. And I don't know how many days or months they will issue the ATT. California will not issue me a license even after passing their Nclex so thats also a disadvantage. Can you guys please help me choose what state to go?

I only know that Vermont, New mexico and New york will issue license even without SSN. Do you guys know what are the advantages and disadvantages of taking the NClex in these states? :o I need help, thanks for the replies :trout:

If you wish to work in NJ, then go that route. You will be required to present the CES for endorsement to work there. So just get it done in the beginning. Why spend the extra money? Have you completed the English exams yet?

The issue is where you want to work, not which is the fastest. All thing equal put when you go thru the immigration process.

And the other major thing to consider, are you ready right now to take the NCLEX exam, or do you need a couple of months to study and prepare? It is quite different from your local exam. And some states only have a short window for testing.

The thread about NY being the fastest is over 16 months old, please look a the dates of the threads. Not sure why everyone is so keen on spending or wssting so much money when they do not need to. Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Thanks for the reply suzanne! Ok so I go straight to New Jersey now. So New Jersey only requires CES not cgfns anymore right? I wasn't sure about that. Last may 2006 they released an article saying that New jersey will only require CES but somebody from Kaplan told me that new jersey returned the CGFNS certification requirement. Which is true? And I haven't taken my english exams yet but I plan to after my Nclex exam. Thanks for the time suzanne. You are really helpful!

CGFNS has not been required since May, 2006, and it was actually being discussed last year, we just did not have a date officially.

And they have not returned the CGFNS requirement, doubt that anyone will ever do that.

And where is this wonderful person located that told you that? Wanting you to pay for a review for the CGFNS exam? And in Manila? Probably.:o

That is why it is always best to go straight to the source, and in this case, it is NJ BON.

Yeah the Kaplan from Manila actually told me that New Jersey returned the CGFNS requirement. Well thanks for reply suzanne. I have questions regarding the application of New Jersey because I am not sure of what to write in some of the questions but I will first direct it to the Board of New Jersey to see if they can answer me. If their reply is not clear I will ask for help again. Thank you!

Another question, Do i have to take TOEFL or Ielts before i sit for nclex in New jersey? And do they give licenses even without SS#? Thanks

Most states will not issue a license without a SSN#, and NJ is one of those.

Most states also do not have language requirements, very few actually do.

i hope it's not true, i heard from others that NJ is a bit slow in processing licensure applications and quite strict with the SSN requirement and immigration status of the applicant.

by the way, it seems that the available form in the website is not yet updated because it still mentions cgfns certificate which a registered professional nurse educated in a foreign country must submit to the BON. perhaps, you need to send a request to the BON for an application packet for RN licensure in NJ specifically for applicants educated in a foreign country.

i hope you will share to us here any info you will get from NJ BON about the requirements and the procedure.

:penguin:

Hmm a fellow nurse here told me that her CES arrived after 8 months and thats a long time. Even if i want to go straight to New jersey, I can't be idle for 8 months just reviewing. I emailed New jersey but only one emailed back and her answer was not clear either. I asked for Application packet since May and until now I don't have their application packet. If its so hard to apply there, I won't bother anymore. I will try other options too while I am applying in New Jersey. Well thanks for all the replies, and I will update you guys regarding about New Jersey. I have seen few threads regarding foreign nurses applying to new jersey hopefully we can all help each other. By the way is it true that NEW JERSEY belongs to the compact state as of now? What is compact state? thanks, have a nice day everyone!
