Chiro To FNP?

Published

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site...need some help...

I've been in practice 12 years as a chiro. I'm seeking a career change for a variety of reason. My ultimate goal would be FNP.

Are there any chiros who have gone the route of Mid America Learning? I've been talking with them lately...have seen mixed reviews in various forums. Some of the posts were 2009-10...and now we're in 2015...so wondering if anything has changed / gotten better?

I'm trying to find a path that would be mostly online...and self paced...so I can keep my practice and continue to treat patients...

So, I guess long question short...

Is there an Online Route of getting FNP?

Thanks in advance for any help / advice...

Hello,

I'm a Doctor of Chiropractic and I'm also a Nursing student. Maybe I missed it, but you did get your ASN/ADN before you got your BSN, correct? Otherwise I'm confused as to how you did that.

Hi, No I went the the pre-license BSN program at WGU. IT was shorter to me (2.5 years) to get BSN, and it was online except for clinicals and labs, otherwise I would not have been able to complete it because of work and family.

That's really great to see that I'm not alone in this venture. I was in my preceptor during Chiropractic college and thought to myself - "I could really benefit this patient, even more, if I had a larger scope of practice." So, before graduation I was already enrolled full time in an ASN program back home. I met with an adviser today about a concurrent program allowing me to take BSN courses while I finish my associates in nursing.

You could say that I'm one of those people that look great on paper, but experience is low. However, I'm still young and figured if I don't do it now, I never will.

Hello! Do you know any docs that have graduated the ADN program in Palm Beach. It looked a bit sketchy.

Are you doing the WGU prelicensure program? I am also looking into that. Are you able to work still? Thank you for your time!

I don't know anything about a palm beach program.

My current path is doing an accelerate BSN program through a college close to where I live in the Minneapolis area. It is 15 months...mostly online with clinicals once a month at their college. After the BSN I'm hoping to continue on towards FNP...but am undecided on which school at this point.

I do still plan on working while in BSN. I have a variety of businesses that I work online and that are flexible. I don't see a ton of patients at the clinic and I'm only in the office 3 days a week...so it's kind of on auto pilot. One of my classmates from chiro school just finished the BSN at the program I'm going to and he said it's a lot of busy work, papers etc. Not overwhelmingly hard or complicated...just a lot. And he discouraged working full-time...but part-time would probably be feasible.

Good luck to you.
