Chinese nurse want to work in UK

:) I am a nurse from China, i want to apply for a job in UK.I have been worked in the surgical department for 3years. Is there anyone can tell me how is the nursing job in UK?

Nursing jobs in the uk are plentiful as like everywhere else nursing is in short supply. Do you have an area in the UK you want to nurse? I should tell you that in London nursing is in very short supply but that is generally because nurses cannot afford to live in London or its surrounding area as housing etc is expensive. Else where in the country there are plenty of jobs, some very good teaching hospitals and pay is reasonable. 2 websites I would recommend are

Thank you very much for your information. I am going to work in London, i guess the expense is about 10 times than china. I am not sure whether i can afford it ot not. the aggency tell me that i can get 15.000pounds per year, could u tell me is this pay enough for an oversea worker? I will be glad to hear from u again :)

£15,000 for London is not alot, usually the pay in London is slightly higher than the rest of the country due to it having a higher living cost, even for newly qualified nurses. Nurses from overseas should be paid the same as nurses in the UK, you need to be careful that the agency you are using is not exploiting you. If you visit nursing times web site I previously gave you there will be jobs advertised for the London area and will give you a rough idea on pay. Pay in general is under review in the public sector but I image there will still extra pay for working in London.

I am thankful to your reply, i read the website you give me, yes, there are many nurse job vacancies. I am a registered nurse in China, but i can't apply for job there before i registered to NMC. The agency will arrange me to be trained for half years then work as a trainee before register as a Uk certificated nurse. By the way, how is the rent per month in london? How is the nurse position in UK? Are there many oversea nurses in UK? :)

Rent in the London area is extremely expensive. You will not be able to survive in London proper on that type of salary.................. Cost of living is about 2 times that of the US, and your salary is lower. I have a sister that has lived in London for over 20 years and no way would I ever consider living there, even on my American salary........ :uhoh3:

If the hospital gives you housing you might pay £300- 400 per month rent. If you have find private accomodation it will cost you alot more. It's worth asking your agency or hospital if they can arrange this. Of course the price of private housing depends on the part of london that you will live in. Also i'm sure that the starting rate of pay for a D-grade is around £18,000-19,000. I think that all nurses from china, and many other countries, must undergo a period of six months where they are supervised. During this period you will be assigned a mentor who will determine whether you are capable of working in the UK as a registered nurse.

I don't think you can work in the UK if you have not registered with the NMC, Every registered nurse must pay a registration fee and also a payment every three years to be legally able to work as a nurse. As far as I know it is a legal requirement

I think that you can work for a six month period where you are supervised. I believe that during this period you will be paid an A or B grade. At the end of your supervisory period if you have met the requirements, i.e achieved the required competencies you can apply to the NMC for a pin i.e your registration. Unlike America there is no licensing exam. You will be deemed competent by achieving the required competencies.

A and B grades are nursing assistants or untrained nurses.

D grades are newly qualified nurses. If you do come to London will find that hospitals here have a large percentage of overseas nurses, although I have never met one from China. I highly recommend that you contact the NMC and insure that the information you have been given is accurate.
