Okay, I am looking for some information about the daily schedule of a nursing student. Can someone tell me how many hours a day are spent in class? And how about once clinicals begin? And is it usually 5 days a week? If I am doing a 4-semester program, when will clinicals likely begin?
I am researching my childcare options. I just applied for Spring 2006, so I have a little time, but want to have an idea of when I will need childcare and when I can be home with my baby. Thank you!

I also am working on childcare issues. I have one who will begin first grade and my 3 year old will be going to full-time pre-school.
Monday:9:30-3:20pm (school only)
Tues: 7:30-3:20pm (school and clinical)
Wed: 7-10:50am (clinical only)
Thurs: 7-10:50am (clinical only)
Fri: 8-9:50am (school only and then open lab)
This is just so you have an idea...I am sure it is different everywhere. I also know that in semester #2 for me I will have a couple later nights and only go 4 days/week.
Hope that helps and good luck...I start next month and this is my first time away from my kids, it will be quite an adjustment for all of us!

Is this for LVN , ADN or BSN. I know that they vary in class times. I went 8-5 M-F for LVN school . However my friend went 3 days a week for ADN school, 2 days clinical and one day lecture. I am going into a BSN prgram and have no idea what the times are, that's one of the reasons I am asking. I have to arrange daycare as well.

Thank you very much! I appreciate your help! Good luck with your first semester!
My hubby and I are very determined to make it work.... but with not much money, it will be tough. Hopefully friends and family will be willing to help out a little here and there.... thanks!

I have three in daycare/preschool. Its something that you have to adjust every semester cause the times change constantly! Plus, does your school have night school or just day school? My clinicals this semester started at 7 three days a week and day care starts at 7, so I talked to the day care provider and she was nice enough to open the center early so I could make it to clinicals on time.

My schedule is Monday 8:00am - 12:50pm
Wednesday 8:30am - 11:30am (lab)
Thursday 8:00am -2:30pm
My school also suggests adding an extra day for lab work.
I have an 11 year old, 9 year old, and 5 year old.
Luckily, my 11 year old is on the school bus by 7:10am which leaves me enough time to
get to school.
My sister-in-law works at the same school as my 5 year old so I will be asking her to drop him off at school.
My 9 year old will be a slight problem. She's not on the bus until 8:00am, so I am going
to have to find someone who can put her on the bus or possibly my sister-in-law will drop her off on her way to work. Otherwise, she will be going to the YMCA two days a week for before school care.

Hi,
I am staring an ADN program (4 semesters) in Sept 2005 and will have all of my prereqs done when I start.
My schedule for this first semester will be
Mon 12-3
Thurs 12-1:30
Sat 8-11 am
...which, now that I am reading other posts, looks like a SWEET schedule.
I am stressed too though with 3 kids, the oldest is 11 yrs, 6 yrs and the baby is 3 yrs. I have worked toward this though for the past 2-1/2 yrs in order to get all of my prereqs done so I would be away as little as possible.
As of right now, it works out that I will be home in time for the older two when they get home from school and my SIL has recently decided to stay home after the birth of her second child and she will be watching my
3-year-old while I go to class/lecture during the week.
DH will have all 3 kids on Sat
Now come Nov when the schedule comes out for Spring/Jan 2006, of course, everything changes and the stress of "how the hell I am going to DO this", starts all over again!!!!!!!
sigh, sigh, deep breath,
I am so thankful that I have this site and you all to vent with. I don't know about anyone else, but as the months and days tick down toward September, I am having bouts of anxiety and truly doubting whether I can pull this off,,,and this coming from a really self-disciplined, time-management guru!

Word of warning--we have NO SAY in our schedules and don't know what they are til a lot closer to the beginning of classes than where you are now (does that make sense lol) Also, our clinicals began the first week but they were skills in the lab the first two weeks, and the third week we hit the floors.
Anway, first semester ADN was:
T 8 - 11, 12 - 2 ( i think- lol) all at school
F 7:30 - 1:30 (clinical)
One online class
(Other people did not get so lucky and came three days a week. it just depended on the luck of the draw.)
Second semester:
M: 1-2, 3-5 (school)
Tues: 2:30 - 11 (clinical)
Thurs: 2 -4 (school)
Third semester will be:
First half semester:
M 7-4 (clinical)
W 10 - 12, 1 -4
Second half:
W 10 - 12
R 1:30 - 4:30
can't wait to see what 4th semester will hold for me lol
So the moral is that you can only plan so far, the schedules get crazy. Try to find out from your nursing department what your projected schedule will be, maybe that will help.
