Help! What is the going wage for Chicago nurses with 4 years of experience? I work in indiana & make 25.30/hr with 3 yrs of experience in acute rehab & 1 1/2 yrs of med-surg experience. I was offered a position at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago with a base pay of 26.00/hr 2.50 shift differential for eves & weekend differential of 2.00. I heard an experienced nurse makes at least 31-32.00/hr. I need to make a decision quickly. Is this a fair wage?

A base of $26 with four years experience seems low. I would like more like $30+
I had the same sneaky suspicion myself! I was also concerned about my safety about taking the train at night. :balloons:Thanks for the reply.
Now I have to call the recruiter back & tell her I'm not accepting the position. That's going to be a pleasant experience!:balloons:

Can I ask what hospitals you guys are referring to in the above posts? I'm going to be finishing an accelerated ASN program next summer and plan to move to chicago in the fall, so I'm curious to know the starting rate for new grads, and at which hospitals.
I applied to Rehab Institute of Chicago, Northwestern, Thorek & Mt. Sinai. All of the above hospitals wanted to hire me in at 26.00-26.55 an hour. I suspect they offered me a low wage due to the fact I work in Indiana & earn a lower wage here. Mt. Sinai was the only hospital that offered me a fair wage at 29.04 hr & I accepted & will be starting there in one week. thanks for all your replies.

I was recently offered $18.75 for a job in Arkansas. Needless to say, I didn't accept it! But the job I took is only $24-- better than the $21 I made in Nebraska.

I have been working as an RN for 2 years still making the $24.05 I started at because we didn't get raises & the new grads coming in now asking me for help & guidance are making the same $24.05 I am.
