Impaired Nurses
willykittyrn, i am so sorry to hear about you situation. my suggestion is if you suggest a drug test done on your hair and that is a sure fire way to prove that you have not done anything. it will require you to give a hair sample and that will give them a 6 month history of proof of no drug use. check it out online. it can be expensive but it will hold up in court. and then if you are 100% clean and theywill not accept that option, get a lawyer. you have done a wonderful job staying clean for 3 yrs and that is a great accomplishment. in my expereince with my board they are unforgiving and are only interested in making you fill like a criminal. i know they have they put public saftey first, but recovering nurses need to be on the panels when reviewing individual cases as to the punishment.:deadhorse also remember some food may make you test + for substances. sobi (spelling??) has a drink that can cause you to test + for meth. good luck lisa p

Should I leave??
student too, boy do i know l&d, i feel like being new in l&d you should get at least 6 months orientation and have a preceptor for at least one year. difficult area to work things can crash and burn so fast. where i use to work at you were not given anything too difficult no mec, amnio's, twins. mag, ptl, or you were gradually given harder assignments. no more than 1 active pt and maybe one c only continuous efm. i hope you have central monitoring stick it out if you like it and if you are not ready then ask for more time remember it is your license and a parent can sue for 18 yrs and the child 21 if something happens. i did l&d for over 10yrs and i was always learning something new. i work in public health now c high risk maternity and it is nice being able to go home and not worry. good luck and stick to your guns!!!! lisa p

New here, anyone had a pt with a Doula?
janernbsn, i have only had a few deliveries c a doula and most of the time they are great , but then there are a few that i would like to pinch their heads off. not supportive, would sit in the chair and watch tv, and when the pt would ambulate in the hall she would go and take her smoke break. sometimes it would remind you of a non-supportive spouse or boyfriend (sperm donor). lisa p:icon_roll:icon_roll :typing:thnkg:

Impaired Nurses
nurseboudin, thanks for the wonderful discloser about your addiction. i am also a recovering addict and it is always a wonderful thing when someone is in recovery and realize their life is getting better c each new day. hopefully your story will help another nurse in active addiction guide them to get help or make them start thinking about what is going on. let us also hope that this will help other nurses that don't understand the disease of addiction that it is not just a choice you make, that is a disease that progresses from a maybe a choice of just having a drink or drug to a full blown addiction. :nono: to other nurses don't condemn another nurse, you have not walked in his/her shoes and remember that i didn't wake up one day and say "i think that i will became a addict today". i could go on but tis the season to be kind to fellow man and to forgive. merry christmas everyone. :reindeer::xmas_smilies_daz: lisa

Healthy women schedule C-sections to prevent vaginal stretching
]Knew an MD that performed an elective c-section for a lawyers wife because the lawyer didn't want any kids to come out of the lady parts because that was his "play area". How selfish. He didn't care too much for his wife or family because so many things could happen to her and then he would have to raise his kids on his own. :smilecoffeeIlovecof Lisa

Patients Treat Nurses Like Garbage!
]I found that you will find rude people in all areas of nursing. Most of the time I will tell them that I will be back when they start treating more like a nurse than a waitress or servant, that will make them think then I usually have a better experience c them and their families. Working c the public is hard and I feel that no one desires to be treated rude, pt or nurse. Lisa :smiley_ab

How do you wear your scrubs?
]:trout: I am getting ready to start a job where we can wear any color and style even street clothes c a lab coat over top. We even get to wear denim on Fridays. How cool because I came from a hospital that got real p**** if anything out of the norm was worn. Halloween is my holiday and we were allowed to wear holiday scrubs and so I went all out glow in the dark, pumpkins, ect and I started at the first of the month and we could. Well by Halloween I was pulled into the AM office and was told that I needed to stop that co-workers complained. :angryfire I didn't and nothing else was said. Don't work there anymore THANK GOD. Just my thoughts Lisa
