Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you are attending or have attended CSU for nursing. They have a BSN program that I am interested in applying to. It is one of the most affordable ones around. I have also considered and am considering the ADN then eventually BSN route, because it is much cheaper.
- What are the semesters like?
- How are classes structured - am or pm? Is there a variety of class times offered?
- How big was/is your class?
- How competitive is it to get in?
Thanks,
Arnetra

First, let me say that I think it's a very wise decision for you to look into CSU. It's one of the most affordable schools around and our program is great!
I am going to be a senior in the program this fall.
What are the semesters like?
Well, semesters run pretty smoothly. As you can imagine just like any nursing program it's a lot of work! The semesters are hectic and require a lot of focus. You start clinicals during your first semester as a junior (in Fundamentals). When you get into your second semester clinicals are twice a week and lectures happen twice a week.
How are classes structured - am or pm? Is there a variety of class times offered?
As far as the major classes (OB, MedSurg, Peds) there is only one time available, because we take the class all together. These classes are offered in the morning (8:30-11:50). Other classes, such as research for instance are offered at other times, some PM's.
How big was/is your class?
When I started we had about 50 people in the class. I think now we are down to about 30 or so. OB knocked a lot of people out.
How competitive is it to get in?
It's very competitive. Last year about 250 people applied and about 45 got in. Don't let that dismay you! :)
Best of luck and if you have any more questions let me know!
Thanks for the info. Just a few more questions when you have time.
What made you choose nursing?
What was your experience prior to going into nursing?
Which days of the week do you have class/clinicals?
How tough are the HESI exams?
I am a practicing chiropractor in search of more... being able to do more for patients outside of physical medicine. I graduated from Chicago State back in 2000 with a degree in Sociology and went on to chiropractic school after that. I am making a huge career change or addition so to speak.
