I have been thinking about making a change, possibly moving to Chicago (I live in Iowa right now). I'm a CNA and have only started some of the pre-reqs for the nursing programs here. Are there any good community colleges in Chicago or close by that anyone knows of? And would it be difficult to get a job as a CNA at a hospital or a nursing home in the area?
Thanks. :)

I live in a suburb of Chicago and went to Elgin Community College, in Elgin,Il. The pass rate for the NCLEX exam of students when I graduated was 97%. I really loved the teacher's and felt very prepared for hospital nursing when I graduated. Check it out. And good luck on pursuing your dream.:)

I'd check the Illinois BON - a lot of the Chicago City Colleges offer ADNs, while a number of the universities in and around Chicago offer BSN, ABSN, or some flavor of DE-MSN degrees.

amanda1229,
I live in the Chicago suburbs and also work at a hospital in the suburbs. There are some really good hospitals and schools around here! I would highly recommend that look into job openings at either Alexian Brothers Medical Center (in Elk Grove Village) or St. Alexius Medical Center (in Hoffman Estates). As far as community colleges, here are the few I would recommend: Elgin Community College, Harper, and College of DuPage. I know all of them have pretty good nursing programs. I know the students from Elgin Community College and Harper do some of their clinical rotations at St.Alexius.
If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them! :) Good luck with your move to the Chicagoland area!

Chamberlain accepted me. Only catch is my bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University isn't really a good one. They will take me if I take $20,000 worth of their classes OVER again. Lucky me. Lisa wants BSN decided Lisa wants ADN. I now know if I have a bachelor's in something else I can switch to an MSN program and skip doing a second bachelors. Glad Chamberlain helped me NOT find out that information. What a rip off.
Signed,
