Chemistry on TEAS

Published

HI! Brand new to this forum. I'm preparing to take my TEAS V exam next weekend. It's been some time since i've taken chemistry and not sure how much time to devote to reviewing. Did you find many chemistry questions when you took the test? Thanks for you time. Wish me luck :-). Just a bit about me I am applying to the Towson nursing program. Ultimately working towards becoming a midwife.

I had some chemistry questions on my TEAS test. I do not remember there being a lot, but there were a few. Good luck.

There were definitely a few chem questions...specifically I remember having to balance a few chemical equations.

Specializes in ICU.

I had quite a few. I hadn't taken chemistry since high school which was over twenty years ago, so I thought I would buy chemistry for dummies and brush up. It was like a foreign language to me, so I didn't even bother. You are pretty close to your testing date. I would just take practice exams and work on fine tuning the areas that you are confident with. Chemistry was not a huge part, but it did bring down my science score. I did well in math and reading to make up for it, and I did alright with the writing portion, I just found some of the terms I had learned in my english comp class were not the same as the test so it screwed me up a little.

Also, when looking at your score, do not freak out if you didn't get a 95%. That is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make in here. They think they did terrible because they scored in the low 80s or upper 70s. It will be scored by proficient, advanced, or exemplary. I scored a 78 which is in the Advanced category. I did fine and I had one of the higher scores. One person I think scored a 90, and maybe three others scored in the 80s. The Teas test is trying to determine how much remediation you may need before taking on the concepts in a nursing program. Do you need more math or writing classes? They want to see how much you already know. I took all the classes I needed before taking the test. I had an option on Advanced Physiology or Chemistry, and I took the Advanced Physiology, so I really had no kind of review on that before taking the test. Pretty much everything on that test you should have had in the prereqs, so do not freak out. When I realized I was never going to understand the chem I needed, I just did lots of practice tests and I scored pretty close to what I did on my practice tests.
