Chemistry class that will transfer?

Published

Hi.. I am 44 years old and have been in school at SJRCC in St. Augustine Florida. The only prerequisite I have left to apply for the ASN program is Chemistry. Here is the problem. When I took the PERT test for math, I ended up in prealgebra. I have taken prealgebra this semester so that means I still have to have intro to algebra, intermediate algebra, and then FINALLY Chemistry.. By the time I finish the Chemistry I will miss the cutoff date to apply to the program. Here is what will happen. IF I get in on the first attempt, It will be sometime in 2015 before I graduate.

I am so tired of doing the prereqs. I heard they may be adding college algebra too. Does it ever end? I looked into an accelerated program in Jax but it is not accredited and to be honest, I dont know If I would hire anyone that went through that program. Does anyone know a way around this? I would be willing to drive to Jacksonville or Daytona.

Thanks to you all!:)

From what it sounds like, you are going to have to complete your remediation classes first, before you can take Chemistry. Pretty much at every school, MAT 1033 is a prerequisite for CHM 1032. If you need CHM 1045, then college algebra is a prerequisite.

Your only other option is to complete a program either at ITT, Chamberlain College, or some other private institute. These credits will not transfer though. I think you should definitely check out Chamberlain College, because their nursing program is a Bachelors of Nursing. It is in Jacksonville (I think it could be in other locations as well). Since it is private, it will be more expensive, but you will be able to graduate a lot sooner, and even have a Bachelor's Degree.

This sounds all too familiar to my past situation. Definitely stick it out with taking your math courses at an accredited location. I know it is a pain, time consuming and will interfere with your projected completion date but believe me, the peace of mind knowing your credits will transfer wherever you may go is well worth it. The thing is, you do not want to jeopardize the ability to transfer your credits to other institutions. If you were to attend an accelerated program aka for profit institutions, you may run into the problem of transferrring out the hours you took to a traditional college, especially if it is a prerequisite course needed. Now the only way close to getting around this is if the class is not required, just that extra points will be awarded such as the case with college algebra at sjrcc. I took college algebra while enrolled in an accelerated program in jax and I am able to submit my points only because this course is not yet a requirement. Definitely look into other schools, a previous person suggested Chamberlain, that a is a fantastic school but very, very pricey. Also, Daytona State does not require Chemistry (but requires College Algebra). I know the process of taking the prereqs is a pain but by completing them the right way the first time around is the way to go!! Good luck.
