Just thought I would start a thread to see who else applied to Chemeketa. We should receive our scores in the next few weeks. The suspense is hard. I also applied to OHSU's BSN program.

Yeah me too. What number is she??

#9. I am crossing my fingers you both get in!

Specializes in Acute Rehab, IMCU, ED, med-surg.

Congratulations to everyone who got into the program!!!:yeah: Good luck to all alternates. Don't lose hope.

Hi Art - did you end up choosing Chemeketa or OHSU?

Hi Art - did you end up choosing Chemeketa or OHSU?

I'm going to go with Chemeketa. It was my first choice. What did you decide?

I picked Chemeketa, too. It was hard not to after comparing the cost and distance. See you in September!

Does anyone know for sure how the alternate system works? I called and verified my email/phone number information with the Dean's office. So, now we wait....Do you know how many actually start with the class? When I called, the lady told me that all of the alternates start in Sept. this year....has anyone heard anything else? At that point you learn your ranking as people have declined their positions. Please let me know if you know something more....thanks!

I know that people who got accepted have to give their answer before July 1st. My friend who is an alternate said she received a similar packet to mine, which tells her about what she needs to do in case she gets in. I would say make sure you have all those things completed in case you're offered a spot. I would assume that they will start calling alternates after July 1st. I don't think they'll wait til late September when school starts, but I'm not 100% sure....

I was wanting to create a group for us on Facebook, but I need people to add in the group first, so add me and then I will get it started. :)

Okay, the group is up.

Sorry for all the posts...

Specializes in maybe L&D or NICU.

I just wanted to say congrats to everyone! I am a first year at Chemeketa and just finished my final today! And I passed! I can give you guys my experience being an alternate. In 2008 I started as alternate #11. Towards mid August I got a letter informing me that I had made it into the top 5, so I needed to be prepared to go to orientation and the first week of class. I believe they did it the same this year, but the first five alternates go to the first week of class. That way if someone drops in that time you are ready and able to take their spot. If you are in the top five and you do not go to orientation or class, you do not get your alternate points. Only those who went but did not get in are given the five points. In 2008, I did not make it. I was next in line, but by the end of the week no one else dropped, so I had to wait until the next year. I was the only one with the extra points so I knew I was getting in! Family 'stuff' came up and I was unable to accept my position. So this year I applied again and got in. It is crazy and much tougher then I ever imagined. I went from a 3.92 GPA to being happy with an 87% in the class. I have known people in the program for the last three or four years, but I never realized how hard it was. You can do it! Just be prepared, spend summer with your family, and for Heaven's sake get some sleep! Best of luck and maybe I will see some of you in the Fall!

Thank you so much for replying with your experience as an alternate. It helps a lot to hear it from people who have actually been in the same situation.

Did you go ahead and buy your books as an alternate to begin class and everything? I know it is still early in the year, but I am trying to mentally prepare for what I may need to get organized before now and then.

That is awesome that you are now finished, but I am sure it was a lot of hard work.

Thanks, again...
