im doing my chem lab report right now and one of the ?s i have to answer is "which food will heat you up more on a cold day: warm soup or hot toast? why is this so?" ok now i know its the warm soup and i know why but my why has nothing to do with chemistry. we're doing heating curves right now and i think she wants us to relate our answer to the whole specific heat thing. if anyone knows what im talking about, please help! thank you so much!!!

How about this --
The molecules in the soup are closer together than in the toast and thus can hold heat longer. That heat can dissipate to the body because it was retained long enough to enter deeper into the body when eaten therefore warming the body tissues it comes into contact with.
(Just a bit of fecal matter.)

The soup.
Which conducts and reatains the heat longer? :)

Soup, which is primarily water has a higher specific heat than toast. Due to water having a higher specific heat, it will take water longer to cool down.
