I attempted to take chem 1A many years ago, and it was SO over my head. I am generally an A student, but I had never been so lost in a class (BY THE SECOND OR THIRD WEEK!). I dropped out and ended up getting my LVN instead of my RN, mainly so I could avoid chemistry.
Well, 12 years later, I am taking pre-reqs for thr LVN to RN program, and we have to take chem 2A (inorganic chemistry). Somebody please tell me that chem 2A is easier than 1A !!

Truthfully, no. Organic chemistry builds on basic (gen) chemistry. I had Gen Chemistry in the Fall so everything we've been doing the first four class periods was review (functional groups, naming, alkanes, alkenes, etc.). I warn you: there are a few people in my class who haven't had Gen Chem in a few years and they are lost already! I'm thinking that you're taking Gen Chem first since it's a pre-req for Organic, correct?

Chem 2 is different, you will have to learn to draw structures and later on in the biochem part it will be a little like A&P. You won't have to do as many mathrelated problems like conversions, moles or chemical equations. I didn't find it quite as diifficult as Chem 1. Chem 1 was a prerequisite for Chem 2 though, good luck!
I don't have to take organic chemistry. I have to take INorganic chemistry. I noticed that general chem (or chem A) was a pre-req for chem 1A, but not for Chem 2A. So hopefully, that means chem 2A is a little easier.
Good luck! I like Chemistry. I was studying Organic a little while ago. I think I need tutoring at least twice a week. The thing about Chemistry is that in class it appears A-OK. Once you go home and try to work the problems it's like :selfbonk: .

I'm in Inorganic right now. I have to take an entire year of it (three quarters). I'm not sure what Chem 1A etc. stands for, though. Inorganic Chemistry is also called General Chemistry. The pre-req for Inorganic Chemistry at my college is recent high school chemistry or Intro to Chemistry (Chem 101).
Is the Inorganic Chemistry you are taking part of a year long series, for pre-med, pre-engineering majors? If so, it is extremely helpful to have a solid background in chemistry. The lectures are so vague that if you don't already know the stuff the professor is talking about, you just wouldn't get it. If the class is not part of a year long series, and it's a one semester/quarter thing aimed at majors that only need one semester/quarter of it, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Just practice practice practice! Also, check out the Chemistry Club thread. There's some great links to wonderful sites that really have helped me!
Good luck!
