Chattanooga state rn fall 2016 hopefuls?

Published

I was just wondering if there is anyone else hoping to get in to Chattanooga State's RN Program for 2016? Looking for a group of members willing to share our experiences, concerns and progress while hopefully becoming the Nursing Cohort for fall 2016!

I have never had a class where 80% of my grade came from final or midterm. I would totally freak out just by knowing that. I can not understand how that professor has been there all those years with every student having the same experience. I changed my professor. I wish I started this before you took that class and I could have warned you. It still sounds like you are going to do well enough to pass. Did you use a study companion to study for the TEAS. They have a book in the library that you can use but when I went to check it out it looked like it was a really old edition so I just didn't bother.

@aja878 I had a bachelor's degree before I decided to go back to school for my RN so I already had chem, math etc. I'm glad you've gotten your psych, nutrition, a&p out of the way. I loved the biology courses mainly because it's so fascinating learning about the body and how it works. As far as micro, I made myself study cards on quizlet and put test questions or end of chapter review questions on there. Also, take copious notes from the lectures. I took mine online so I would pause the YouTube video and copy pertinent information for review. If you bombard yourself with the info and try to understand how it works (not just rote memory) you will do fine. I also highly recommend buying the teas practice tests from ati. I bought the book, studied, and the first time I made a 76.8 average. The second time I invested in the practice tests and made a 91.5. The teas test can make or break your nursing points so aim high. Let me know if there are any other questions you have.

I only used the ati yellow study manual. I think after shipping and taxes I paid $50 from Barnes and noble. It has two practice tests in the back along with an answer key. I've taken notes on everything that I need to, so if you want it you're welcome to it. I'll probably just end up selling it to mckays anyways. Lol.

@aja878 I remember exactly where you are now. So excited and nervous to make the cut. I know this is a little early but they email you whether or not you make it in the program in late March and mine and alot of other people's email was buried in the spam folder. There is a strict time limit to accept your spot so be diligent about checking. It was scary to think the most important email of my life was do easily missed!

Make sure you remember the metric conversions on math! It only gave me the equivalent on one problem. Also know your percentage formula for rate of decrease/increase.

@beholderseye, did you take the rodp or chatt state class for micro? I'm taking it in the spring. I didn't do very well on online a&p1 so I'm debating taking micro online.

@dnw09 I took rodp for a&p 1 and 2 and chatt state online for micro. Which one did you do? I definitely prefer chatt state because they give you video lectures and study sheets and rodp just gives you a giant PowerPoint and is like, alright it might be from the book or it might be from here. Good luck! I made a's in both but for rodp I had to obsess over all the information as opposed to chatt state which made me feel like they really wanted you to understand the information not just chug and plug.

@dnw09 by the way I took DW for micro online. He was amazing. The evening lab at Chatt state was fantastic too. Definitely read the material carefully before class though because she quizzes at the beginning of every class based closely on the lab manual reading and they count for points!

I took chatt state for a&p1, I did the lecture and lab combined and didn't do very well. Pretty much nothing came from the book. It all came from her notes for the chapter, which could be anywhere from 4-14 pages long. I had KD, and there were no lecture videos. I feel like if there had been I may have done better. I'm taking a&p2 on campus next semester. I have EM for lecture.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delayed response. I was wrapping up my summer semester. @beholderseye thanks, I'll be sure to invest in practice test. @dnw09 thanks for the teas math tip and also if you have not made your visit to mckays I'd be happy to purchase it from you. How was Statistics for you guys? I hear for some it's really hard and others say it's a breeze.

I took statistics online and I got a B. Some things I really didn't understand, but math really isn't my strong suit.
