Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) University of Charleston West Virginia (UCWV) Marshall CRNA Start 2023

Has anyone else applied to this program for May 2023? Looking to chat and keep in touch through this process! I heard the last two years they haven’t even conducted interviews and that they haven’t decided if they are doing them this year or not.

To your WV residents- any advice on best cell phone service providers out there? We have Verizon currently but are thinking of switching to AT&T. Just want to make sure I don't lock myself into a contract with crap service out there.

I also am coming from out of state and have Verizon. We went down a couple weekends ago and had issues with service. Any suggestions as to which carrier is best would be appreciated!

I joined this to see about when everyone is getting their letters. I am a WV resident & still haven't received mine. I saw some of your questions and thought I'd try and be helpful & answer some. I recommend AT&T. Unfortunately, because of how rural some areas are, service can be dicey with any carrier. I switched from Sprint to AT&T and one of my good friends has Verizon. The dead spots are all the same— AT&T just seems to be faster!

Another question for any Charleston residents... any tips of good hospitals or hospitals to avoid? My wife is an emergency room RN and was hoping to work PRN out there while I'm in school. She is open to doing something other than ED if there is a specific unit that has good culture and is recommended.

I worked at CAMC Memorial ED for 3 years— I loved it! It's a 34 bed + 6 hallway bed ER. Memorial is the division known for all things cardiac. The acuity is high & we have a boarding issue (what hospital doesn't). The ED gets backed up to 60-70 patients on an every other day basis. CAMC General is another division that is also located in Charleston & they are a Level 1 trauma center. I haven't worked there, but have a lot of friends who love it. CAMC Women's & Children's is another division that sees a lot less patients and is much smaller, but I externed there through nursing school and the work environment is friendly. CAMC is the most popular hospital in Charleston, but if she wants other options... I'd recommend Thomas Memorial Hospital. They are our current competition & pay $10/hr more than CAMC. If she applies to CAMC, make sure she asks about supplemental nursing contracts & per diem plus contracts!

Thank you! This response is super helpful! I'm sorry you're still waiting! Being local I feel like you should definitely have your letter by now if other people received theirs end of last week? I would reach out to the women with admissions for the program to see if you can get an update. Good luck and again thanks for the quick response!

Did you have to apply for a separate WV nursing license, or did your compact state cover it? Trying to figure out if I have to apply for a WV license, the process is a little complicated if so!

I am in Virginia which is also a compact state, and I'm pretty sure it covers it, but just looking at all the "what ifs" now ?

I have a friend who started the program last year and he said that all he needed was proof of his compact license. That's also the impression I got from the email. However, it sounds like I should maybe email to confirm though because if it's a complicated process I should probably get started sooner rather than later.

I think our compact state license should cover it, in the admission requirements is says "Once admitted, the School requires all in state and out of state students to maintain licensure in the state of WV or qualifying compact state license". So theoretically, should be fine, but as I sit here and obsess over every detail I didn't want anything to come up!

Just curious for those who just received their acceptance letters in February, have you gotten any more information? I got an email that they'd received my matriculation fee and that I'd be getting more information but haven't gotten anything yet. I've already filled out my FAFSA but need more information about what to do next since school is starting soon.

I got the same message. In my email it stated that the matriculation fee was received. But in the email I was sent, it said that more information was to be sent next week (which is this week), so I'm hoping we will hear something soon. I'm all out of the loop it feels like LOL.

Hey there! I would love to connect with the people who were accepted for May 2023 start! Anyone interested in starting a GroupMe or facebook group? Or if one is  already started—please invite me! I am looking forward to starting this journey with you all.

Best regards,

Shelby Sisson
