Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science entry-level Master of Science in Nursing Program (ELMSN)

Hi all!

I just wanted to see who is in this program/who has applied and their thoughts.

I am planning on applying to this program for Spring 2019 and wanted to get some feedback from current nursing students or others that are planning on applying.

What're your stats and what was the interview/application process like?

Thanks for your input!

It doesn't really say, but even when I asked admissions it was pretty vague. All my advisor told me is "why you want to become a RN and why CDU" and "The essay is optional, but I encourage all of my students to submit one because it gives you a chance to put things into context, explain any low grades you earned , etc."

Yes!!! I think it went really well too. From what the front desk representative said, it seemed like they accept everyone as long as you meet the criteria and there is space available. My old concern now is funding my education. It's going to be EXPENSIVE there :/

I just got my acceptance letter today for Spring '19. I am extremely excited, but on the fence about all this debt that's about to be acquired. I'm not sure if I can justify taking out 100k+ in loans, plus the ridiculously high interest rates.... anyone have thoughts on this?

Has anyone been accepted to the Spring '19 program?

Hello! I confirmed my acceptance already. Have you thought of what you will be doing?

I think that I am going to pass. The amount of debt that I will be in when I graduate is going to be very difficult to get out from under. The interest rates on loans are ridiculous right now, even the Federal loans (I don't qualify for much of the standard loans), so that leaves me with an 8% interest rate on the grad PLUS loans, which is outrageous. All of that on top of the fact, that it is sometimes difficult to find places that accept new nurses without experience. I REALLY want to do the program, but I just don't think it makes sense for me.

May I ask how you are funding this? Also, I know there are loan forgiveness programs, but the number of people that apply to them compared with what they have available.... odds aren't looking so good.

I see! Good luck to you and whatever route you choose to take :) I have been privileged enough that I have my finances planned out for me. Those with a MSN do have a high chance of finding jobs right after graduating and passing the NCLEX. But I do wish you the best of luck!!

Wait...You said they accept everyone...could you explain please, also who told you this lol??

If you meet the minimum the requirements of course lol

Where do you guys find the application deadline for this school? I thought the deadline was Nov 30
