Changing state license

Nurses Men

Published

Hey everyone just had a quick question hopefully you all can help me out!

I currently reside in Florida and this is where I'll be obtaining my nursing license, however I plan on moving to Seattle, WA afterwards.

Does anyone have any information on how to change states? Neither Florida, or Washington are compact states so I know it's not the simple process. I'm just not sure how it works exactly.

Okay so I'll I'd have to do is fill out the endorsement form then?

The form should contain all of the necessary instructions.

However, if you know that you plan on relocating to Washington, why not apply for initial licensure there, as opposed to obtaining licensure in Florida and then endorsing your license?

Am I able to do that while I go to school in Florida?

Yes. You can attend school in one state, apply for licensure in another state, and actually sit for the NCLEX at a test center in a third state.

Make sure that going to Washington is what you are going to do before you pursue this. It would be a waste of time and money to get a Washington license and then decide you are going to work in Florida and have the license endorsed back to where you already are. From personal experience, Florida is a royal pain to get an endorsement to. They are one of the more expensive states, and their documentation requirements are bordering on ridiculous.
