Changing my major?

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi,

I'm currently a nursing student at my community college and am thinking about changing my major. I spent my first year of college accepted into a state schools' nursing program. I ended up transferring because I wasn't too thrilled about the school so I ended up transferring to a community college. So far (with my classes from my state school and community college) I have not done very well in my science courses; I have had to retake almost all of them to get a better grade and I still have not done that great. I have done very well in all my prerequisites but I just cannot seem to do as well in the classes that I need to be good in (the sciences).

I have always seen myself wanting to be a nurse but now I am second guessing myself; maybe I liked the idea of being a nurse more than I actually want to be a nurse.

Any suggestions? And if you have been in a similar situation I would love to hear your story and what you ended up doing.

Also, are there any majors that you would recommend changing to that don't rely too much on science?

Sorry for such a long question but I would love to hear any input that anyone has. :)

Thanks!

Do the sciences interest you? In any other classes have you found yourself really enjoying what you were learning? I always found it easy to study for sciences and nursing classes because I loved everything I was learning. Some other classes, not so much.

I think you've answered you own question - this isn't for you.

The science's are hard but they should be enjoyable - if not then its not for you, they don't get easier.

Sounds like you like the idea of being a nurse - I'd expand on that and ask yourself why that is. Is it b/c you want to help people or is it you want to be in a position of authority, so on and so forth.

Dig deep there and be honest with yourself and once you figure that out your path might open up for you.

Majors without "science"? Define "science" as it pertains to you? Are you talking like basic biology classes because for pretty much any major for a bachelors degree you have to have some science type classes. You would be better talking to a career counselor type person at your school than a nursing message board.
