Changes affecting Nursing faculty WA state

I don't know but I just sent an email to the cohort I graduated with (MN in June) and 11 of them are teaching. I am sure I will get a response.

Well, if this is truly the case, the college nursing programs are going to be in big trouble.

Recently my CNA instructor - a LPN with over 25 years experience - told us that effective this Fall she can no longer teach CNA classes because WA state is putting changes into effect for nursing instructors. I believe she said all levels are affected: for example you need a PhD to teach BSN classes and a BSN to teach CNA classes.

Does anyone know where on the Web these changes are posted? I googled using several key words and looked at Dept of Health but no luck. Thanks!

A BSN will be required to teach CNA's? Good grief. To me this sounds like nothing more than academics creating locked up non bedside areas where only they can practice. They already have a lock on many nursing positions already. Sad too IMHO.

An experienced LPN is more than qualified to teach basic CNA skills IMHO... I wonder how many BSN nurses will WANT this lowly task?

None of my teachers pals have heard of this...but then it doesn't affect them so...

The community colleges in my area (Bremerton, Shelton) are advertising for RN's /BSN preferred to teach CNA's and I was thinking of applying. These are adjunct faculty positions however so perhaps adjunct staff can squeak by without a BSN.

A friend of mine is teaching this course for ESL students at Skagit CC. She is an LPN. Pay is $40 an hour. I say go for it.
