Change Project

Hello everyone!

For my leadership & management class I will be working with the nurse manager for the Mother/baby unit. I am so excited and grateful because I hope to one day end up in this area of nursing. For the class I need to implement a change project to help make the unit a better work environment, have better patient satisfaction, ect. I have brainstormed a few ideas from my own unit I work on (LTC) but I do not know if they can really help for mother/baby. Do any of you have any suggestions? What would you like to see changed on your unit? I start precepting this week and would like to be prepared with some ideas.

Thanks!

One thing that was often done at the last hospital I worked at was a study of evidence-based practice regarding alcohol and cord care (it was done with such frequency that the Peds leader in our newborn nursery finally said "Enough! I don't care what the evidence states; we are not changing the policy on using alcohol to provide regular cord care!")

It's hard to provide ideas without knowing the policies of your particular unit. You might look at the policies surrounding post-C/S ambulation and foley catheter use. The first hospital I worked at kept foleys in for 24 hours, and the next facility had them removed at about 8 hours post-op.

Those are great suggestions. Thanks so much for helping!

How about various ways to support the nurses as they navigate through different changes on the unit, the hospital, healthcare?

Different ways to boost the nurses' morale?

My suggestion is to talk to the nurses on the unit. They maybe struggling through recent changes, leadership support, etc

Good Luck
