Chances of Getting Into Accelerated Nursing Programs - BA 3.2 GPA and 3.0 Prereq GPA

Published

Hi,

I am currently a student at the University of Florida. I am anticipating to graduate with a 3.2 GPA in Criminology, but my GPA for the ABSN prerequisites is low at a 3.0. I haven't failed any classes, but I got three C's. How is that going to hurt my chances of getting in? I want to apply to FAU's ABSN and UCF's ASBN. Would it be safe to retake one of the classes I got a C in to make my GPA higher, or do schools frown upon retakes regardless if you did not fail the class? What are my options if I did not get into an ABSN although I already have a BA?

I also wanted to know if FIU has an ABSN program because I have been getting a lot of yes and no answers about that. I want to know which is right.

Thanks a lot,

TIff

I retook one of my prereqs for a higher grade and was still able to get into absn programs. I would explore more schools to increase your chances of getting in. Maybe you could raise your GPA and show how committed you are to nursing by taking a CNA course, pathophysiology, pharmacology, EMT, or any other relevant nursing class. If the absn thing doesn't work out there's still traditional, ADN, and second degree programs (Samford University). Good luck and sorry I can't answer the rest of your questions.

Thanks! That helps =)

UF looks at your last 60 credit hours, regardless of your degree, for the ABSN program, pre-req GPA very important as well, you must take the GRE and pass with at least a 1000 and write a statement of purpose (I think of at least 500 words). Well, you have the next year to worry about everything because the deadline was March 1st for 2011. Hope this helps...
