Chances of getting into county public health?

Published

I am a new grad. Currently, I work at a clinic/ rehab setting for the homeless and undeserved. I work on my own mainly and I handle a lot of medical/ psychiatric emergencies and a lot of challenging situations.

My goal is to get into the county department of public health as either a public health nurse or community health nurse. I want to stay in my area, which is Southern California.

Will my experience open the way for me to work for the County?

Specializes in public health.

I got my first nursing job at a county health department with no previous experience. I am not sure about where you live, but I live in a metropolitan area. I think some health departments are open to hire new grads and some requires years of experience. I don't think previous experience working as a floor nurse would benefit or hinder your chance of getting hired to public health departments. Good luck!

Thank you!

I am going to pray about it.
