Hi everyone,

I recently was deemed academically eligible to start in the Spring 2019 semester (advisor said technically, I haven't been officially "accepted" since I still have to take my drug test + background check). I haven't seen too many posts for the Las Vegas campus - any possibilities that anyone will be attending Chamberlain in January as well? I've heard it's been a bit competitive for this campus.

Also, my admissions process has been all over the place, but I wanted to see if the experience was the same for anyone else, or of it was just my admissions advisor?

I have not seen too many post either for Las Vegas campus. I am hoping someone can respond to you who is or has attended recently. I live by the Sacramento campus which is very competitive since they only accept 30 students 3x a year. If denied Sacramento, I will be applying for Fall 2019 in Las Vegas. May I ask what your GPA is and your HESI score? I have a 3.46 GPA with all pre-req's almost completed (2 weeks left now with physiology) and 82 point something on my HESI. The average HESI score for acceptance is a 90 at my local location. They say score high 80's to low 90's, so my chances with my HESI score here isn't looking too good. I was at a disadvantage as I haven't completed Physiology yet when I took the HESI.

I have my BS in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology from a Cal State & am transferring in 34 units. My GPA was a 3.5, and HESI was 87%, which isn't the highest of all.

During open house, I was told that I had 30 days to take the HESI exam after applying, so I timed it accordingly.. The next day, I got a call from my advisor saying I had to take it within two weeks. I told him I was traveling out of state, had planned vacation, and asked if I could take it in three weeks - nope. I took it after a week and a half of applying, and YES I WAS TERRIFIED. I hadn't taken a science class since 2011, and had spent little time studying, so I did not feel too confident. When I saw my score, I was relieved I had passed, but still worried that it wasn't in the 90's. I have read that some people passed their HESI exam, but were still offered to retake it to get a higher score.

After passing my HESI, I had to write a "purpose statement" about why I wanted to pursue nursing, and I mentioned how my work experience has impacted my choice in this career change. I was worried that my GPA & HESI score wasn't high enough, but I've also heard Fall is more competitive than other semesters, so I'm not too sure how the admissions committee truly decides.

That is very impressive degree. You also have a good GPA and that is an excellent HESI score!

I had the same thing happen to me also. I applied and didn't know the HESI had to be completed within 30 days, but as you stated, first attempt has to be completed within a small window of 7-10 days of application approx. Then there is the purpose statement, which I am happy that they use because it lets us have a voice and they can use it to paint a visual aide of how we will fit in at their college. I used an entire page as allowed and explained my reasoning. A huge factor is working in the ER at my current employer.

I spoke with a representative this evening that said if I am denied Sacramento (I feel a high chance), that I can ask to have my information transferred over to the Las Vegas campus and apply for the May 2019 start date. I fly out to Las Vegas February to check it all out as I have never been and I am 30 years old. My husband and I both have cousins who live there. Are you from the area? Do you like the area?

I am excited for you to start in January! I am sure if I do start in May there, I will be seeing you around.

My advisor told me things very last minute & out of order, so throughout the process, I was confused! I passed my HESI & he then casually told me that I needed to write my purpose statement. He told me it had to be 1-2 small paragraphs max. I wish I had the entire page! He then sent me two math placement tests that I had to take within the next 1-2 days (mind you, I was out of town & did not have access to a computer), so it felt unorganized. I didn't know why I was taking a placement test before knowing whether or not I had been admitted.. it seemed odd. I felt it would've been a waste of time if I didn't get in.

I'm from LA - many people told me to try West Coast University & I have a handful of friends who have attended. I did apply to West Coast in 2011. I was accepted, but decided not to follow through because of tuition. Mind you, their tuition is almost $150K. My friend has her BS in Health Science, and was only able to transfer 12 units, and had to retake all of her science courses.

I'm 27 and I actually moved here a few months ago with my boyfriend - I'm in the Henderson area right now, but I work at an assisted living an exit away from Chamberlain. The summers here are brutal, as expected. I know the summers in Sacramento are brutal too, so I think you'd be OK :) I absolutely LOVE the area that we live in right now. Our complex and the surrounding area is still pretty new, and the cost of living compared to California still blows my mind til this day. Also, I'm not sitting in traffic for 1.5hrs to drive 20miles away. Sadly, we do plan on moving closer to Chamberlain, since we are literally on the opposite side! Chamberlain is on the Northwest side of Vegas, but my family lives in the Southwest. I have heard it's a great area to live in, so that is where we are looking.

I was originally planning on applying to Roseman where their program was 18 months. Roseman doesn't offer pre-reqs & I have been trying to take Microbiology for the past couple years now at local CC's in the LA area. I kept getting waitlisted in the #30-50 spot, so there as no way I had a chance of getting into the class. My cousin encouraged me to try getting into CSN, where I was actually waitlisted #3, but still did not get in. I was tired of wasting time trying to get ONE class just so I could apply to Roseman, so I decided to give Chamberlain a try & I liked what I saw. Everything happens for a reason, I guess!

Wow, 1-2 small paragraphs? Maybe because they knew your GPA, past education, and HESI score was very qualified, therefore short and simple was best for you. At the Sacramento location due to the high competition they say to use up the entire page and pour your heart and soul into it. I have a friend who attends the Sacramento location but scored a 94 on the HESI and has a 3.7 GPA so he wrote 4 sentences and that was it. He wasn't too worried about being accepted because I think the time he applied, and the start date was 4 weeks away and so many had decided to not attend, that it worked in his favor.

Oh wow, LA! I have been to Disneyland but am not from big Cities. I live in Rocklin CA, so not divers, mainly Caucasian and cheapest home prices are 450k approx. We have an excellent school district. I really love living in our area, besides not being diverse, wish it was more and of course wish it wasn't in California. LA is far more expensive than where I live but cheapest rents are 1600 for 2 bed 2 bath apartment. That is not updated and basic. If you want something on nicer side 1900 a month or higher. So, I see that Las Vegas and surrounding cities you can get 2 bed 2 bath for 1200 for a nice updated place, maybe 1400, but that is still saving. I just worry about the wages. My husband and I work 10-15 minutes from our work; Sutter Roseville hospital. When I step down to per diem for nursing school, I will make about $30-$31 an hour. My husband makes above $20 but under $30 and he will be main provider during this time of school. I could not afford less than $25 an hour as per diem while in school, even though I only plan on working 16-24 hours a pay period. I just need enough money to pay for my gas and any extra cost per set of classes that I need to offset after loans etc. But I guess when I apply and get loans, I can see what I qualify for. If I can get enough loans to additionally live off, I won't worry about work and just focus on school. I think the biggest cost factor is having children. Between school cost and sports, it adds up quick. Also, medical benefits, we have excellent benefits at our employer and amazing doctors between specialist, primary, peds, gyno, like I get anxiety thinking about all of that. BUT at the same time, I haven't taken an risks in my life and I feel I have worked so hard towards this goal that I just need to live a little and let happen, happen....

My husbands cousin graduated from a 3-year night nursing program in Henderson, now is working at a hospital there. She said Henderson is a very nice area. But as you stated I see Chamberlain is on opposite side of Las Vegas. I would apply to community programs there but out of state tuition for the program is 10k less than chamberlain and I would have to apply and go through longer and more steps, where chamberlain I would start May and closer to getting my license. Microbiology was a great class. I ended up with a B, it was challenging but a lot of fun! I wish California wasn't so hard to get into. I get it, they didn't want waitlists anymore, but now colleges are saying 4.0 students don't make excellent nurses, at clinical sites they are failing. Just because someone is super smart doesn't mean they have great communication and bed side manors, or quick to respond in certain areas. At same time many 4.0 students can be great at both. Just what my local community college noticed since California changed to the lottery system, instead of just meeting minimum requirements.

Also nurses at my job have told me over and over, get into any place you can, do well and not to worry about the loan amount. If I really was worried, live the same way I did during nursing school and pay the debt off quickly or just pay the minimum I can for 10 years. They said it won't matter. It stressed me, but same time almost all the nurses I am close with or work with all say the same thing. Some who went community route said they had no debt and are happy, but said it was an option for them back then, where some nurses said it wasn't and they have no issue paying their loan now and they don't regret it at all. Chamberlain also has AMAZING equipment and technology! They also have a Global Health program (cost about 3k), but what a neat experience! I can't wait to apply for that experience!

Hello! I will be attending January 7th for the spring start in Las Vegas, After the drug screen and background check there are a few more things you need to do like talk to your advisor about what classes you will be taking and getting a payment to hold your seat. You also have to submit a few documents online. Have they told you about orientation yet?

Hi! Awesome :)

I do have my pre-enrollment appointment this coming Friday. Do you know which classes you'll be starting off with? They did send me a few documents to sign.. this was their way of telling me I was accepted. My advisor was like, "sign these forms, thanks". There wasn't any "congrats" or "you've been selected to move forward" etc. It has been a guessing game throughout this process with my advisor. :)

I know nothing about orientation - I'm out of town almost every weekend in December, so I'm worried I won't be able to make it since they'll be telling me the date last minute at this point. Do you know when it will be??

YES, I honestly found it difficult to sum everything in 1-2 paragraphs.

Housing is very affordable here, but like you said, the wages are nothing compared to California! :)

I just got the call today from my Sacramento advisor, that I was denied the Sacramento location. They are now transferring my application over to the Las Vegas location and I will be applying to the May 2019 start date. I am very excited!

Hi! im also starting at Chamberlains Las Vegas campus on January 7th. I was told new student orientation is on December 14th! I am kinda confused by this process too. I'm moving out from northern California and am still waiting to solidify my "acceptance". Hoping everything works out since ive already locked in housing. So far all they have had me do is my FAFSA and sign a few papers. Im hoping now that thanksgiving has passed they speed things up a bit. Its making me nervous! I had to reword my question a few times but finally got them to commit to saying there was a spot waiting for me when I pass my drug test and background check. Hope to meet you are orientation!!

DO you know how much the payment is to hold your seat? I was 'accepted' but my advisor hasn't mentioned that to me.
