i'm starting NUR531 as of august 29, looking for previous graduate, current student and new students such myself to share more information about the program. feel free to write about your concerns, advice and tips to help everyone out.
Little about myself, i"m currently a medsurg RN, with a little over 2 years of experience, thinking of getting either my BSN or FNP while i'm at chamberlain. i live in norfolk virginia. originally from morocco, i just had a baby boy {my first} he is 11 weeks and i do work full time.
so let me start with some few questions
how is the program in general for those who are either done or halfway thru?
what is your advice for new students?
what classes do you recommend to take together?

Howdy, I'm starting 29th also after doing extensive online research about Chamberlain. I have a co worker who just finished and all she has done is praise the program. Her routine was to post on Sun, Mon, Tues and she had Tues off to start working on her paper. She said she picked the first three days to get the required posts out of the way and focus on her paper. She said to print out the syllabus and follow it and you will be good. As far as classes to take together, do a search on here. There are some posts on here that talk about which courses go together. They are older posts but still same courses.
I worked in Med Surg ( oncology, tele, and renal) for 5 yrs before transferring into the OR. Been there for 20yrs. Im older with grown kids, grandkids and one great grand........
Well great background you have vetern, I have few friends went to the OR right after school they love it , I just still can't find myself yet in a specialty.
I'm excited to start chamberlain, I really want to get my bsn and further more my education, just a little nervous since it's my first online school, and not sure what to expect.
We should make a group for the ones starting on the same date so we can keep each othe motivated, and be resources to each other.

I'm almost done with my RN-to-BSN. Just 2 classes in September and my capstone in November.
I have to say, with the exception of Economics (which I believe is no longer required), I've enjoyed all my courses at Chamberlain so far. Econ was awful because it was taught like a business major course by DeVry, not Chamberlain. It was more than 20 hours/week of homework and I barely pulled off an A in that course (got it by 0.3 points!)
My nursing courses have been terrific and my instructors have been great about communicating when I've had questions. If you do the Student Success orientation, you'll be all set to start. You typically do a discussion post each week (APA format) and have to reply twice to other posts in the discussion. Most courses have a Course Project where you have 3 separate "Milestones" on weeks 2, 4 & 6. Some do the milestones on weeks 3, 5 & 7, just depends on the instructor. No group projects....yay!
I'm a night shift nurse, so the online format fits my schedule well. First discussion post is always due by midnight Mountain time. I'm on the Eastern time zone, so I have to post by 2 AM on Wednesdays. The other 2 follow up posts have to be completed by Sunday at midnight Mountain time. Milestones are also due by Sunday (same time). They use a program called "Turnitin" for your APA papers. You submit your paper to the Turnitin drop-box and it scans you paper for plagiarism. You'll get a similarity index score, which compares your writings with published work and other papers submitted to universities that use Turnitin. Your similarity index has to be less than 24%. I've never had a paper that was higher than 8% on the similarity index, so it's nothing to be worried about.
The assignments have been very do-able. As I said before, the only course that was majorly time consuming and frustrating was Econ, but due to student feedback, it's no longer a required course (lucky!)
I really like the way courses are run and the assignments are not overwhelming at all. I was originally going to finish my FNP with them, but my employer will only reimburse for the BSN there, not the FNP. Bummer! I really wanted to continue there because I like it so much.
Good luck on your first course. They really ease you in to the program with NR 351 so you don't feel overwhelmed. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for your detailed posts, SporanoKris !
I was wondering how the non-nursing courses are. Currently I am about to begin my third nursing course and the work load has been very manageable but I have heard the non-nursing courses are much more intense.
I need to take political science and history.. if you have any input on these courses I'd greatly appreciate it :)
Hi guys, I am registered for n351 , who is everyone professor ?

I took those when I got my ADN, so unfortunately can't comment on them with Chamberlain. I only had to take Sociology & Economics as non-nursing courses since I worked on courses towards the BSN during the summers while getting my ADN elsewhere.
The only "bad" feedback I've heard has been related to Econ. Feel very lucky you don't have to take it!

Phew yes I am sure glad Econ was dropped! Well thank you anyway!

Am also supposed to start 29th August. The admission rep said everything went through but she didn't call to register me for my classes yet. I guess she will tomorrow Monday.....am super nervous. Never done any online classes before.
Has the rep sent you emails with log in info for the site. If so try to log in you should be registered. My rep called me to walk me through everything but I had already downloaded my book and looked around the site.
