Chamberlain College of Nursing - Online LPN-Rn program ??

yes but the last i heard chamberlain was not accepting out of state students. check out the distance learning forum for more information. also read more about ec before making any discussions. most people really like the program and learn a lot. it has been around a long time and graduates many nurses...

hello everyone! i live in west michigan where lpn's have so little options...
i have been working incredibly hard this summer to complete pre reqs for an online lpn to rn program through mccvlc.org (michigan comm. college virtual learning center) of course i find out today they have no room for me for the fall 2007 start. typical story in my area. obviously if i have to, i'll wait another year. i would really like to get going though!
has anyone heard of this chamberlain college of nursing and is it accepted in michigan? i have looked into excelsior before and feel kind of uneasy about it. if anyone has any info, please let me know!

I second the previous remarks. Chamberlain has recently dumped it's out of state students. You can find some posts about this on this site. Excelsior is a more established and stable choice at this time. If your state currently accepts Excelsior, you enroll, and then later your state makes changes, chances are very high that you would be grandfathered and warned in plenty of time, like the students in CA. If I were you I would go with Excelsior. Check them out very carefully at http://www.excelsior.edu. If you decide to go with them, remember to enroll before the end of September as their curriculum changes on Oct. 1 and you want to insure that you fall under the old rules. Good luck.

Added thought: A good way to stay out of problems with these distance programs is to enroll and do the program as fast as possible. If you diddle daddle along, you are more likely to get caught up in changes. Excelsior also charges a yearly maintenance fee, and has an overall time limit for completion, so it doesn't pay to enroll and then forget about it.

My concern with Excelsior is the lack of clinical experience. I feel that I'm not strong enough clinically. I don't know. I'm going to call them here in a little bit to gather more information.

If you do not feel strong in your clinical skills then you should not attempt any distance or online program.

The distance program I was intending on doing was great! It was 2 semesters of course work and then a summer semester filled with clinicals. Would have been perfect! I don't know that I can wait another year to get into it.

I do have a lot of clinical experience. I have seemed to develop a severe case of paranoia and low confidence over the past few years.

Areas that I lack clinical skills are IM injections (don't give too many of those in LTC), IV's, wound pumps and things of that nature.
