Chamberlain College of Nursing Houston

Published

Hello all,

I am considering the program here in Houston over the online program at UT arlington. I have an appointment next Friday with an admissions counselor and was wondering what to expect. For those of you already in the program or applying for the May 2 start date do you have any advice? I was going for nursing in Cali but moved here a year and a half ago and have since been taking classes at LSC for engineering. However, I have a family and my GI Bill isn't cutting it anymore. So I am looking to get into the workforce as soon as possible.

I have all of the Bio classes and most of the first year classes knocked out except for phil and a few others. The only thing I am worried about is the fact that I took these classes about 3 years ago. Do they have refresher courses for A&P? How hard is it starting out in the program? What options do they have for financing the degree? How hard is it to get accepted? My gpa overall is 3.4 but the Hesi is what im a lil hesitant about. Are any of you applying at the moment ?

I have a million questions but I am just looking for some experienced advice from anyone attending or in my position as well. Also I wanted to start a new thread for anyone interested in the Houston program that may have the same questions. Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I am actually back to being on the fence with engineering/nursing I'm not sure I will start in May. After thinking a little bit I'm not incredibly sure I have the patience to deal with patients daily. I want to work with vets but as I said I am not sure I'm fit to be a nurse. Im so confused at the moment. Additionally at the moment I live off of my disability money and money I get paid for going to school through the VA and the VA won't pay for me to do nursing but will pay for me to do engineering/geophysics. Someone help.

They won't pay you to do nursing.. A little confuse

Yes, they won't pay for it. When I was in Cali I was using my post 9-11 gibill to do the prerequisite courses. It took a little longer than I thought it would to get close to finishing them and I filed to switch to a different program of benefits that would extend my benefits to pay for the nursing program. That one is called vocational rehabilitation and it requires you to do employment research on the degree you are seeking. For anyone that doesn't know, you have to also be at least 30% (i think) service connected with disabilities through the VA. One of my highest ratings is for my back.

Skipping ahead, the day i met with my counselor there in California they told me I wasn't allowed to pursue nursing because there is potential for aggravating my disability by having to assist, lift, turn patients. So that is why I came to Houston I started doing prerequisite for geophysics/engineering. So I just recently thought about getting back into nursing because it would be a shorter route to getting into the workforce. And it would be even shorter through chamberlain, but I won't have that extra money I get now from the VA for going to school there. I'm sure my counselor won't approve me for it but I'll be talking to her on the 1st of April. Hope that explains it.
