I have been a Medical Assistant for 7 years and attending college to become an RN. One of the PA's I work with said I could challenge the board if I take an Pharmaceutical class. Does anyone know if this is possible? This is my first semester in college and I have a long way to go. Any help? I probably need to make this a little more clear. I would like to challenge the LVN board to become an LVN. I know I need to attend school to become an RN no doubt about that. So my question is if there's a chance I can challenge to become and LVN?
For us Medical Assistants (in CA anyways) challenging the LVN test is nearly impossible unless you happen to work in an inpatient facility. It is geared towards CNA's instead unfortunately. In CA you have to have 54 months paid experience in an INPATIENT facility. I contacted the board to try to challenge as I have 14 years paid experience doing the exact same duties as an LVN, including IV starts, sedation monitoring, surgical technician duties, etc... very high level functioning MA. But only 2 years of my employment was inpatient, the rest outpatient with a pharmacology course in addition to several other medical related courses, but I did not qualify because of the inpatient employment requirement, however had I worked in a nursing home changing bedpans for 4 years it would not have been a problem. Makes no sense at all to me...

I did. Submitted the application, got my ATT, tested, and was on my way.
